I suspect that the weather will dictate when I harvest. The question is, what temp range will allow the buds to stay healthy and keep growing? Two of my plants are trees that I started too early, under lights (with my veg), and two are small in pots that I started just because I got over-excited at how beautifully the big ones were growing.
But now, I’d like to give them at least 3-4 more weeks, but we’re already looking at lows in the upper 40’s to 50, and highs at 70 or less. Will they remain healthy for ripening into October here? I don’t have the experience to know. Also, I cannot see the top half of my trees, so there’s that.
I Can add pictures if it helps, but I know they’re not ready for the pain relief and insomnia solutions I want.
I could bring the two little potted ones in, but the big ones are about 11 feet tall. So no, not this season. I’ll know better than to let them get so tall next year.
Weird weather continues here in central NY. This week, we get dry 80s until Friday, when temps dive and rain every day. Sooooo…while I’d love to give my trees another couple of weeks, it’s not happening, I’ve found little bits of rot in half a dozen places, but I cleaned it out and sanitized. Everything else looks good.I’m hoping the heat this week, along with having cut off as many fan leaves as I could reach, will goose it along to a Thursday chop. Wish me luck, please!
I’m in upstate, cut one of my plants this morning. Bud rot was spreading and I was cutting out more and more. I’ve got 3 more, I’m hoping they’ll last until the end of the week. If not, such is life. I tried spraying peroxide/water and it still spread. I did a wash of lemon juice/ baking soda before I hung it.
I just cut one of my little potted ones (it was ahead of the trees), and it’s lying in the sun to dry the wash water. Waiting until Thursday, right before the weather turns to shit to do the big ones!
We had to harvest since the weather in NY is soon turning to shit. I would like to have waited a couple more weeks, but…
The hard work is done. They’re drying in the breeze and will soon go to hang upstairs. Never again will I let one get so tall, about eleven feet.
