New soil fox farm?

The idea that DE works primarily through an abrasive action is a popular misconception; but if that was the method of action, wouldn’t you be scared about inhaling those particles? DE is mildly abrasive, but that’s not how it kills bugs. DE bonds to the fatty coating on the outside of insects, allowing them to rapidly dehydrate.

I think there’s some confusion because DE can be beneficial both in the soil and on the plant, but in completely different ways. In the soil it modifies water retention, and on the plant it can kill bugs (for a limited window until it gets wet).

It’s silica, it is dangerous to breath in let’s just all be very clear about that.

While I agree with you that it only helps with bugs until it gets to wet, this can take 2 or 3 waterings depending on how aggressive you water and how much DE you spread, it is helpful with with issues like gnats.

Also once it’s dispursed in the soil you have now added silica to your soil Wich helps in other ways. While others add silica this is a cheap multipurpose method.

Are you having any PH issues with the soil mine seems to be on the alkaline side a little.

@CapnC Nope…the way I test my pH is AFTER nutrients added to a gallon of water. From what I have seen my FF nutrients drop the pH down. Then it needs pH UP.

I also have acquired a large amount of ffof and I want to use it. But I want to add to it first. Any thoughts?

If you’re talking about mixing it use happy frog and layer it in a V-shape with HF in the middle. Someone has a image on here somewhere. Baby roots grow bigger in HF and by the time the roots grow into the OF she’ll be big enough to handle it.

I’m thinking of adding a bag or two to my compost

I’m gonna sound dumb I know but is happy frog geared towards the growth cycle and ocean forest geared towards flowering? I have been using a 50/50 mix of the two all the way through with no issues however I just want to improve as I advance.

Ocean forest tends to have more nutrition but Happy Frog adds Mycorrhiza and Bacteria that Ocean Forest lacks. Using a blend is not a bad idea.

I use ocean Forest but add the mycorrhiza and bacteria using other products.

I use FF happy frog in 3 or 5 gallon organic bags. Works great for me.

Here’s a question, after the grow is harvested can you reuse the the happy frog again after its sifted and cleaned of any left over roots?

If you choose to reuse the soil I would probably add a couple of fresh bags with it an mix in. I reuse My ocean Forest In my vegetable garden. But I also dumped it in a kids swimming pool and add some things to it an mix it up good. Just my thoughts good luck

I have been reusing my soil. I add a little of hf soil conditioner and some blood meal bone meal and other stuff mix it up in a kiddie pool and use it again. I’m assuming that it’s not as hot as it was the first time but the second crop looked amazing
