New Indoor grower, help on size, ventilation, etc

Thanks for the info @DissidentPriest. I will keep an eye on water temp, was only thinking of doing that because it can get pretty damn hot here in Australia & have read that if the water is too warm that can cause bacteria to develop & cause root rot, have seen quite a few system setups using a chiller/heater to maintain temps.

Continuing to add to my list of equipment I havenā€™t yet asked about nutrients. Can anyone running a RDWC or DWC system suggest a good nutrient to use. Should I be looking at using grow/bloom additives with my first run or just base nutrients to start?
Any input is welcome & thanks in advance :beers:

@garrigan62 I saw in another post that you use Advanced Nutrients. Would you recommend these for a first timer for hydro?

Yes i would highly recommend.

Which ones would you recommend @garrigan62 ?

Cool thatā€™s what I was looking at getting, what about all the extra stuff they have on the market for roots / bigger buds / etc

All their products are awesome youā€™ll have to go through them but Over Drive is a good one

Thanks @garrigan62 :+1:t2: Just trying to work out how much of everything I will need especially Grow Micro Bloom, how long do you veg / flower for. I just donā€™t want to run out & would prefer to make sure I have enough on hand for the entire grow from the start.

Do you use CalMag? If so do you use though the entire grow or only as needed?

you wonā€™t run out with though 3

@garrigan62 how long would you generally feed as seedlings / veg / bloom? I know this would all depend on the strain being grown but just looking at a ballpark to work out nutrient usage because Advanced Nutrients dont seem to be available at all hydro stores here & Iā€™ll have to order online.

Never feed seedlings. Never. Oke

Cool no problem on the seedlings. How many sets of leaves should I wait for before I start feeding? How long should I look at keeping them in veg state when doing a Scrog setup? Whatā€™s the average number of weeks in a flowering cycle?

Just saw the new indoor growing guide released, so much helpful info :+1:t2:

@Radnelac

Wait till they have 6 true Setā€™s of leafs and as for vegg to till they are 18" to 24" then Flip to 12/12 for flower

Another question that may seem stupid. When calculating amount of nutrients to add into an RDWC system do you base it on just the amount of water in the reservoir or the total amount of water circulating through the entire system? Iā€™m guessing the total amount of water in the system but just wanted to confirm.

@Matthew420 I have been reading around the forums about lights & saw that you think CFLā€™s are great as well & that you use a combo of CFL + LED. Iā€™m just thinking of keeping my initial costs down for my first setup. The 4 LED lights I was looking at getting will cost me around $680 Aus & CFLā€™s would be a hell of a lot cheaper even factoring in that I would need 2 sets of CFL globes (1 for veg & another for flower). Just wanted to ask your opinion on this.

I think CFLā€™s or tubes work well. I have 4ā€™ LED tubes and 2 900w equivalent LEDā€™s. Go with what you can afford and you can always add. But whatever you choose, make sure you have enough light.

So if you go CFLā€™s make sure you have 50w sq. ft. 6500k for Veg and 2700K for flower are good color choices.

Cheers @Matthew420, yeah I reckon Iā€™ll go for CFLā€™s for now & upgrade later just to keep my costs down a bit. The turkey pan reflector you mentioned in another thread sounds like an awesome cheap alternative too :+1:t2:.
