Hello all, as the title says im new to growing so far ive only successfully killed 3 blue dream auto seedlings. They got about 3 inces tall, stalled and died. I believe i watered incorrectly and didnt develop good roots. I also just planted in bagged top soil. Im not ready to give up so I thought id share how I plan to go into this next attempt so hopefully if im making a critical mistake it can be pointed out. I plan to plant the blue dream autos in 3 gallon fabric pots. grow medium wise im going with fox farms ocean forest mix adding 20% perlite.(since some claim that soil is hot for seedlings) im going to go with about 3 inches of happy frog with 20% perlite on top. since ive read its fungus content helps with root development. I plan to not add any nutes for at least 3 weeks. I plan to keep them under a 75w full spectrum led light for first 2 weeks before moving them under the larger light. Does this sound like a good grow medium setup for the blue dream auto? Thank you in advance for any and all advice. I am very inexperienced.
Don’t knock yourself for the seedlings dying. It happens to everybody. It’s called trial and error. We live and learn. You’ll figure it out for sure. We all do sooner or later.
Can’t speak to the soil mixture but sounds like you’ve done some good homework and got a plan. The biggest problem with most new growers including myself is over watering.
Until the seedling gets established, you have to have some patience. Less is best at that stage when it comes to watering. As long as she has her cotyledon leaves, the plant will feed off of those leaves till they start to die off in about three weeks. You can literally put a dome with a few holes for ventilation, keep the inside slightly moist with water and she will draw the moisture from the air and feed off those leaves till they start to die.
Good luck and keep’em growin!
Make sure you are using a dome on the seedling and watering by spraying the dome a couple times a day. Seedlings breathe through their leaves until roots are formed so doming the seedlings creates a more hummid atmosphere and allows the seedling to drink throigh their leaves. Im on my first grow too and almost killed my seedling at the beginning… the dome saved it and ive sucesfully grown 3 out 3 seedlings since.
Really it sounds like u have a plan of attack if i can give u two pieces of advice one is use the K.I.S.S method dont over think things and two i would mix some worm castings in the happy frog soil just so it has enough food until it hits the ocean forest soil
Well you should germinate your seeds first with a white paper towelon a plate place your seeds on one side fold the other half. Then sprinkle water to maintain moist. My seeds sprouted in three days. You keep checking paper towel mantain moist water. When your germinated seeds are about 1 inch & gas small leaves showing transplant to small pot no fertalizers. No fabric pot make sure your pot has water holes so water can drain. Continue grow in small pot when plant is 7 inches tall then transplant to larger pot or outdoors. I am planting out doors here’s what i will do when my seedling plant is 7 inches tall. Dig a 1 foot hole deep 6 inches wide i will add my fertalizer to outdoor hole. I will use perlite, chicken manure, ozmocote, triple 13 fertalizers just a hand full needed. After adding fertalizer back fill hole with dirt then transplant to hole anout 3 inch transplant deep. Tap water is all needed besure you space your plants 3 feet rule. Monitor plant until buds turn brown or gold ready to harvest usually around 3 months. Maui wowie is what iam planting happy growing.
