New grower trying to not kill latest plants

Is there a way to use a photo light meter to make sure led light is not too intense for young plants :seedling:? Also how much water should a gallon pot get and how often?

@Adam1jam Yes… There is a app Photone.

Or you can buy a quantum sensor or par sensor… Which i use as the app doesn’t function well on my phone.

Use DLI to set your light… Use the light manufacturers recommended “height above canopy”.

Here’s a great thread on DLI by @Nicky:

@Adam1jam Water to run off… Only water when pots feel light. They better with a dry period… The plants will also show they are hungry.

What soil? Most “good” soil will contain enough nutes to last about a month before requiring adding extra nutes in the water… Transplanting extends that time.

If using distilled or RO water to water/feed you may not have to pH the water… But shoot for about 6.5pH. You’ll have to add tap water or some nutes to pH RO or distilled as the don’t have enough minerals to conduct electricity… EC

Most ph meters are 4 in 1 and have a light meter that reflects how much light your plant receives at any given place you just run the meter along the top of plants. If switching seedlings or young plants to led lights like 1000w or 1200w hanging lights i found the best methods are to either only run the veg setting with the blue light being gentler or in cases of urgency have the light on both veg and bloom for the optimum pink light, hang it so your plants are just out of the direct light and getting peripheral light, do this for 24 hrs then inch them forward every few hrs, this is like hardening but indoors, if your plants start to droop or burn just move them back from the light, move the light up, wait 24 hrs and slowly move them again, if you see the droopy branches on the top that is a sign of light stress so move them then to avoid burning.

The PhotoBio would be a good choice for measuring par/dli

Whats that?

It’s a par light meter… For using DLI to find the optimal light per day in dli or ppfd.

I just bought one and have a new grow going like the fact I can dial the dli in. Like you mentioned photone doesn’t work on my phone either.
