New grower, got sprouts, have questions

Apparently the little light leaks in my tent aren’t enough to hurt the blooming process. It’s 8 days since I flipped the light to 12-12 & her pre-bud pistils are showing.

The new Spider Farmer light should arrive tonight. It advertises a 4x4 footprint for blooming & I have a 3x3 tent, so it should be more than enough. I’ll get it hung & place the second scrog net up for controlling bloom stretch.

On the vegetable front, I’m looking at a Hydrofarm Root Spa 8 x 5 gallon bucket system. Normal operation would be to start it indoors in February & move it outside in April. I’d probably need both an aquarium heater & chiller for it depending on the outdoor season. I’d also hook a rain barrel up to the nearest downspout to conserve water. I’d probably have to dose the rain barrel regularly with chlorine to keep algae & bugs under control.

Finally, it’s time to consider the next grow: second round of the same autos or order a different strain?

@GrnyGrows, awesome. Let me know how it goes.

New light is in place & I’m screwed.

I thought I could hang it higher. It’s all the way up on the pulleys and I’ve only got 7 or 8 inches to the bottom of the light to the tallest part of the plant. I might be able to get another 4 inches if I hang it directly from the top of the tent, but that’s it.

I also don’t know how I’ll get this monster out of the tent when it’s finished. It’s wider than the door.

I spent more time than I wanted fiddling with it at lunch. I’ll hang the second scrog tomorrow.

By backup plan, I guess, is to pull it out of the tent & move it into a spare bedroom if it outgrows the tent.

The problem with that plan is I have family visiting in 10 weeks & my guess is that’s in the ballpark for harvest day.

What kind of containers are displayed?

The three autos were in Maxx Yield Power Pots, “3 gallon”. They are a cheap knockoff version of the air pots & their actual size is about 2.5 gallons. They were $34 for 6 on Amazon

The gold leaf is in a 10 gallon AutoExpress Air Root Pot. Again it’s an Airpot knockoff. It was $22 on Amazon.

The pots have a built in riser so the base is not sitting in water, but I still recommend using an additional one. The roots of the gold leaf keep trying to grow out of the bottom of the AutoExpress.

Doing some lower stalk devegetation & cutting off any colas that won’t reach the canopy.

The canopy level, second net placed.

Gratuitous up-canopy shot.

Are you happy with the Maxx Yield Pots? Are they holding up? What do you do when the roots try to grow out?

They didn’t grow out of the Maxx Yield. But they are growing out of the bottom of the AutoExpress.

I think the Maxx Yield did really well for being my first grow & not really knowing what I was doing. Between them & the auto-irrigate system I put it, it was about the right amount of time commitment for me.

It’s my fault. For a long time I wasn’t able to completely vacuum out the saucer & I didn’t have the pot on a riser.

All I can do now is try to keep the water level in the saucer down so it doesn’t soak back up too much runoff.

Obviously, it hasn’t hurt the plant’s growth at all. It’s still growing like mad. I’m guessing it will only be a week until I have to hook the light directly onto the cross bar of the tent.

This is the riser I used. One fits the MaxxYield. The 10 gallon pot needs two.

@SilvaBack203 @Capt.Cola,

The bud I harvested & jarred has been sitting for about 3 week, getting burped once or twice daily. Most of it has evened out between 63 & 66 rh. My ambient is about 55 rh, so it’s tough for me to get it to drop.

Think I can go ahead and package it this weekend with bovada packs?

Yeah you need a better light and a grow tent with Mylar go on Amazon and look for a bloomspect light it’s got a brightness dimmer and then look up how to use the mars version and it will give you a graph on how to use the dimmer for different stages for your plant.

How are you packaging it? Not going with mason jars or grove bags to store it in?

Not specifically grove bags, different Mylar hot-seam bags for long term storage. Then I’d put them in a fridge until needed.

Sounds like u got a good plan hows the smell

I’ve been thinking about hot seal bags for storage. I wonder if others are using them @Retiredoldguy

@GrnyGrows I don’t do it and I have a vacuum sealing machine I use for food. I read it will work but to put your bud in a hard sided box because otherwise when the vac goes down it will crush the buds…I use big and small jars with those old style flip lids with a clamp down latch.

I thought about the vac squish. As a canner, I’m comfortable with jars. Love the idea of the flip lids. Where do you get your jars?

I can’t remember where I got them, had them for many years has the replaceable rubber gasket…
