I have seen several methods posted about how to do it that make sense. Personally, I just water pot down to good amount of runoff a couple of times with full strength nutrient solution prior to transplant. Had minor issue early where I seen a few specs on leaves, but cleared up pretty quickly.
A lot do just as @CoyoteCody suggested too. I have have also seen people say do a few soakings in calmag solution then do a quick flush right before planting. All that matters is that you get little bit of calcium charge into it prior to planting.
Girls went to their final home this morning. Two in 5G bags and one in a 3G bag as I ran out of the Coco Soil! I watered the bags yesterday with Cal-Mag and 6.0PH water. The two on the right I fed 1/2 of the recommended amount of the ILGM stuff as their Cotyledon leaves were already dried out. The biggest one still has its first leaves green, go figure. Pics coming via cell. Still canât upload here.
Pictures of the girls today. I am somewhat confused on the feeding schedule since we are in Coco and not soil. Do I feed every watering along with Cal-Mag? @dbrn32. Pics coming
I do. Some will kick it out every other day successfully, but thatâs not my experience.
Depends on makeup of your base nutrients. I donât use âcalmagâ but rather one of three products is loaded with calcium and another of the three has more than enough magnesium.
I only grow with soil buddy. Your babies do look a little yellow so I would think your N is a little low. I never follow a feeding plan. Bit of paper canât tell me how hungry one plant is so I trust my tech. I monitor everything constantly. My PPM falls as I feed so I feed when she falls below 700 PPM. I bring my feed up to around 2000 PPM and watch it fall as they munch through it. My ph has a set zone I work to as well which is between 6 and 7. If it falls below 6 I get the bicarbonate of soda out. I have a few burnt tips, I have a few yellow leaves, I even have a few dead ones in there but in all of this I look at my babies and I determine how she looks overall before I decide on an action plan . Canât decide if Iâm answering this post or your other one mate . I think what Iâm trying to say is your PPM should go down as you water. If it doesnât then water till it does come down, then feed. If you feel your plants are missing something change your nutes to a more comprehensive range rather than trying to add missing elements. Not sure if Iâm helping mate
You are. Coco is new to me and @dbrn32 is the expert on it. Coco likes a much lower PH 5.8-6.0 . So you feed, say to 2000PPM, then just water and watch the numbers come down? interesting. I think, and may be wrong, that Coco requires more regular feeding. Today I fed them from the FF trio for the first time, and of course made a few mistakes. Two are in 5G bags and one in a 3Gal bag. I initially fed about 1/4 of the called for amounts in a gallon of water. This came out to 760PPMs. The waterâs PH going in was 5.8. I wasnât thinking and applied it to the one in the 3G bag. The runoff numbers were 6.2PH, which surprised me. perhaps @dbrn32 can elaborate on that . The runoff PPM was 1250. I then cut the feed amounts for the next two. water PH in was 5.7 for one, and again, runoff PH was 6.5. In PPM was 683 and 500 runoff. That makes sense, so I can add a bit more to next feeding Last one, again, in PH of 5.8 but 6.4 out. In PPM was 600 and 445 out.
And later I remembered I had forgotten the Cal-Mag, so I mixed 2.5ML in a gal of PH water and and sheared it between the three plants. I had looked online and the FF feeds have little or no Calcium
I donât know if Iâm expert on anything, but pretty new to coco.
I think if youâre seeing swings in runoff ph and ppm out vs in may be that youâre not getting enough runoff or feeding often enough. So far Iâve had the best luck making sure I get about 25% runoff and feeding daily. When I do that my runoff is just about what I put in. It seems like the couple of times Iâve missed a feeding my numbers will askew a little.
And truly the first real feeding other than one small feed with Bergmanâs seedling mix. In the 5G bags I need to run at least 2Gals To get a 25% runoff. How big a bag are you growing in?
Iâm in 3 gallon fabric currently getting about 2 or so cups of runoff feeding half gallon daily. That will probably increase as root mass expands though.
If your coco was really dry makes sense that it would take a little more. But probably wonât keep taking that much if youâre applying to runoff daily. Your plants will probably like a lot too.
Thanks, it rained all day today and cooler so I left them alone. If feeding daily I guess I need to watch those PPMs in and out to see where I am. You donât think I might over feed them? I realize Coco has little nutrients in it as opposed to soil
I have them now on a 1/2-Gal water schedule, and I am getting plenty of runoff for testing. The only thing still off are the runoff PH readings, although the plants look great. I keep forgetting one is on a 3Gal bag, and her PPM numbers are great. yesterday they were 1000 in and 1005 out. The other two in the 5Gal bags read 1113 in and 621 out, 980 in and 652 out. The one in the small bag is growing like a weed, maybe it is having the correct amount of feed. I will remember next time to add some extra to the other two. The PH readings in for all were 5.7-5.8 in and 6.3,6.4,6.5 out. On a different note, will I need to flush them at some point? I have been having some issues with the WW Photos and not finding a fast cure, so I flushed them with 5-6 Gals of PH water each, and they seem to be doing better
