Looks just like what i do. Super tight but i push airflow.
You are missing the point. I’m not implying that you are flat out wrong. I am saying that your advice is misguided because you have no idea how big the grow space is or how many plants are in that grow space. It matters.
Did I say you were wrong? Did I say anyone was wrong? No. Please just move on.
Now i cannot post to other people in the topic and op huh?
Im not mr. I respect your view 100%. But to claim im giving bad advice is wrong. Flagging…wrong! I willnot respond to you again. Good luck with your grows.
Not what I said and if you continue you will find out what happens when I’m annoyed.
Move. On. Period.
If i continue what? feel i did nothing wrong. So i only asked for clarification.
Did you get the information you were looking for?
Not really?
I did thorough research on product reviews on all the major LED manufacturers. In some cases there were almost as many glowing reviews as there are one star “do not buy” reviews.
Here’s what I noticed. Many of the glowing reviews seem to come from people who just bought their light and were hooking it up for the first time. A few of those people came back a couple weeks later to say the light crapped out, and the manufacturer isn’t returning phone calls.
Honestly, I’m seriously considering just fixing my old HID and running with it. It’s served me well for years. But I’m still looking because I really want to go to LED.
Makes sense. I would not put a lot of value into reviews from places like Amazon, Ebay, etc. Some of them are fake, and multiple sellers on thos platforms will attempt to negative reviews changed or removed. Also disregard random web hits where all reviewed lights are from those places. Most of those are sponsored by individual manufacturers and/or provided solely on information in advertising and not by someone who has used them all first hand.
Your best bet is to go to the forums and find people using them. Watch a couple grow journals that have regular updates and make sure light does what is expected. Doesn’t even have to be this forum, check a few. My guess is that you’ll see the same handful of manufacturers mentioned over and over.
If you need to be sure you get a quality product and have good customer service, go to horticulture lighting group and gind something designed for the canopy you’re running. Imo they are center of where quality product, reasonable price to performance ratio, and the best customer service meet. You can find a better light or a cheaper light, but you won’t find better customer service and is unlikely you’ll find a better light cheaper. If you look around the web there are all kinds of discount codes and they offer further discounts on refurbished equipment that they also stand behind. My guess is black Friday sale would be ideal point to buy from them.
To replace 600 watt hps their blackbird is probably the closest, but that’s far from their best light. Most of their offerings are designed to replace 1000w or de fixtures. Something like a scorpion r-spec would be more than you need but probably most ideal for a 4x4 or 5x5 tent.
So perhaps my next question should be, do I really need to replace my 600w MH with a 600w LED?
Would a 500w or even a 400w LED do just as well if not better? My electric bill would certainly be less, as will the cost of the light.
My tent is a 4x4x7 with a 6" exhaust fan. I only grow a few plants a year for myself and to share with friends (marijuana growers seem to have a lot of friends ). In the spring I start all my tomatoes in the same tent and any old light works for them.
If money is not an option i would go HLG!
But if ur on a budget ac infinity, spider farmer, and Mara hydro would be the best options! I’m sure there’s more but budget wise those are good options!
Have you ever looked at Phlizon FD6000 Plus? 600w, dimmable with a detachable driver.
I have! But never heard of that manufacturer!
And everyone on this forum wouldn’t suggest that specific light! Is that what yu have currently?
Right now I’m using my old archaic HID system. I’m having problems with it, so that’s why I’m looking at LEDs.
Pros for HID
I’ve had it you years, and understand it well.
At times the heat is welcome, esp during the winter months.
I have a lifetime supply of MH and HPS bulbs.
It grows great weed.
They’re cheap to replace.
Cons for HID
As you can imagine it produces a lot of heat, and drives up my electric bill.
Covering an entire canopy can be difficult, and I often have to add supplemental small LED lights.
Having to change bulbs in mid grow is tedious and annoying.
When growing tall plants such as Durban Poison, the buds can grow too close to the light and burn.
In terms of light output a good 300-400 watt led fixture will match what a 600 watt hps light does. What You’ll run into is most led lights that sized aren’t designed to throw a light pattern to cover a 4x4 canopy.
I did a 180* reversal.
I decided to stick with HID, and go from 600w to 1000w. My old el cheapo Amazon ballast was cooked after 1 year. I replaced it with a high end dimmable 1000w ballast.
A few reasons. Even though it’s old, I’ve got a very good reflector. Was top of the line in it’s day.
My tent is in a spare room with limited heat. The heat put out by the HID will keep the tent in a happy zone.
I’m really used to working with this type of light, and understand it’s strengths and limitations. But increasing to 1000w I’m hoping it will light all all the corners and penetrate the canopy.
Anyway, thanks for all the advice and opinions.
