Are you checking your ppm and ph going in and in the run off?:v:

Ppm…1090… I don’t have a pen yet I’ve just been using 6.5-6.8 pH water…I only have a tds/ec reader…just been going with the flow of looks on the plant…next grow is a tent setup

I didn’t do the flushing like the schedule said and I had issues. The salts from the nutrients build up in the foots and it makes it hard for them to take up the nutrients. :v::blush:

How do you know its pH if you have only a TDS/EC meter?

Pool testing kit…I know it’s not that precise

Litmus paper was used by chemists long before electronic testers were possible. It’s probably accurate and precise enough for our purposes.

I recently finished a grow using Fox Farm Hydro nutes, and I never flushed. I was using CocoCoir/30% perlite, and watering to runoff (to prevent salt buildup), monitoring ingoing and runoff EC. I got a very nice yield, and had no issues with nute burn. But if you’re in soil, that might be different - I’m not sure.

Using FF, you need to water to runoff every time to avoid salt buildup… at least 20%

Exactly! I use the trio and water between feeds. I do not flush and have no issues. Always water til runoff for sure on the water only days.

@FrankCos @4204life : I thought flushing is done toward the end of a grow to improve flavor. The FF schedule calls for flushes at the end of weeks 4, 7, and 10. I believe they’re meant to remove salt buildup.

So: Are you saying you skipped the flushes in the schedule but did a final, or you truly did none and didn’t notice a flavor penalty?

I don’t do any of the flushes. I might do water only the last week or 2 but it would only be to save nutes. I have fed up to harvest also. Cant really tell a difference.

It seems like she is doing alright so far…week 5 did a feeding on the 14th

I skipped the flushing entirely. I found a scientific study that compared different flushing schedules, and found that there was no significant difference in taste - in fact, the taste panelists preferred the weed that had not been flushed at all.

This was my first grow, so I have nothing to compare it to, but the taste of all 4 strains I grew was very nice.

@4204life @FrankCos : That’s welcome news. (Thanks especially for the article, Frank.) There can be times when flushing is needed, but it seems to me that flushing routinely removes nutrients and has no benefit if watering to runoff is sufficient to remove salts.
