39" x 39" x 70" tent in garage with 300W LED and 400 CFM exhaust fan at 50%. Just started my 2nd grow and temps are 90 to 100 now that ambient temps are up. 1st grow finished in April before it got hot and was no problem 70 to 80. Can anyone recommend an A/C unit that is small enough to place in the tent. Or any other advice would be appreciated.

Turn up exhaust fan? What are the ambient temps? Mid 80s is actually closer to ideal than 70s. If you can just turn up the exhaust fan or add an intake and keep it upper 80s or lower you won’t need an AC. Getting above 92 can commonly lead to heat stress. Unless it’s 90s/100s ambient, I’d crank that exhaust fan up before worrying about an AC.
Unless it has an exhaust area like a window AC, it’s gonna cost a little.
Unless you want freeze ice and use an evaporative cooler, which aren’t much cheeper. Without having a window to hang out of. I wouldn’t go cheaper than

Even with that you have to run exhaust btw.
The best route is to condition the air in your lung room. If you just try to control temps within the tent it’ll never stabilize if you run exhaust.

Remember, it’s a garage. So if the ambient temp is getting to high, they will have to use portable and run hose for exhaust. Most garages aren’t insulated or dry walled. So it’s unlikely they can cool the whole garage. 8000btu and exhaust fan turned down would be easy to control in their size tent.
If temp is the problem I would be careful to route the exhaust from a portable air conditioner out of the room, as it can make the heat problem worse. The portable air conditioners exhaust a significant amount of heat.
I would also increase your air flow if your vent system is only at 50%. Proper air flow is often the best solution to heat issues in a tent.

Agreed. I mentioned this. And it being a garage I assume a window unit won’t work. Since you can 3x more btu/cooling out of a window unit for the same price. Remember, this is a garage they are growing. Ambient control is most likely out of the question. 8k btu of cooling, I’d imagine, could be constantly exhausted while bringing in 90s ambient all day. It’s not a cheap option, but it’s probably close to the only realistic one.

Without knowing the layout. It makes more sense to control the space the tent is in, maybe you could section off that portion of the garage and use a window unit for that part.

Dude i found that on my portable unit it has cool dry and fan mode. When on cool tube is hooked to window to exhaust heat from motors ect. When on dry if con ected to window it will cool down thw house to 60° overnight. If i leave the exhaust tube inside the house and have the room at a good stable temp and let it exhaust the heat into the room the coolness that it throws and the heat it throws blend together the room do t get any hotter or any cooler it holds the temp the room was at and dries the air massivly. I need to run my portable on dry venting in and a dehumid running to keep my flower room at a ok rh in the 50s if not both running it shoots up to 70 quick.

Yes, more info is needed for sure. I have 3 inclosed garage like buildings. The shop, was a garage/pole barn at one point. Is 80% finished with insulation and drywall, I have a central unit in its entirety laying around, throwing it in there. Short of that, there are no windows. There are two bay doors and the front door. Back door goes to addition we just built. Another one built further back. Even the insulated structure takes a wood stove putting out 11k BTU to maintain a comfortable temperature in the winter. Summers are more harsh. Short of central there is no hope of actually controlling any of these out buildings, including the one with drywall/insulation. passive air exchange to attic area and aluminum bay doors… So I’m sure the OP has a problem beyond a window unit. Otherwise the question shouldn’t exist.

Do you have access to vent holes or air ducts near to or at floor level?
A fan and a inline 6 “ should do the trick ,use light around 7 pm to 10 am or so - should be the cooler times of the day

Forgot this was the garage thread for a second. It’s 91 outside here today. Hope you got some AC in there or are closer to a pole. Even with lights off I bet it’s 96 in my garage.
