Thanks for this info Budbrother. I ordered ascorbic and citric acid earlier, I will try that on my next plant. If that doesn’t work I’ll look into the cotton seed meal.
That will remove the chloramines, but it’s not gonna solve the pH drift. That doesn’t have anything to do with ph drift over time.
I thought the citric acid was the solution to the ph drift?
Don’t mind me. I’m high, so my brain saw the vitamin C and citric, and then grouped them together. Both can neutralize chloramine, but true, the citric is more for pH. High brain mixup there.
Current situation now, the citric has more staying power, so you could just pH the pot lower now. Get it back into range to complete this grow.
My suggestion on using cotton seed meal (CSM) it’s about the slow 3-4 mos release nutrition, but it’s slightly acidic. I add to transplant hole before up potting from solo. It can’t burn them, but it can acidify the root zone for months. Several organic farmers here have started using CSM for this very issue you’re facing.
Thanks Budbrother, so if I understand correctly the cotton seed meal is something that you mix into your soil before you plant your seed and it helps keep the soil more acidic over a long period of time throughout the entire grow.
Yes, but how long depends on amount of veg time. Autos would be good with one application. You can still use your Gaia as normal with it.
Thanks for the heads up going to try a pinch in my grow, seems it’s good for more than just chlorine.
Key BenefitsStress Alleviation: Activates the plant’s antioxidant defense system, mitigating damage from heat, cold, or nutrient salt imbalances.
Bio-Chelation: Helps chelate minerals, improving their movement from the roots to the aerial parts of the plant.
Enhanced Yield & Biofortification: Shown to boost overall fresh biomass and nutritional profiles (like chlorophylls and carotenoids) in leafy greens and microgreens.
Looks like you got lotsa assistance here from some very qualified growers, so Im just gonna say Hello. Hello! Now where is my bong???
Let 'er rip, tater chip
Just FYI @Budbrother I just checked these again after over 24 hours and there is definitely PH drift. The control PH went from 9.6PH → 7.8PH while the lemon juice water went from 5.6PH → 6.1PH. Hopefully those acids should get everything under control.
