Hello, I am a beginner who was planning to order equipment and start properly, but i got a nice gelato batch and i found some seeds in it and i just threw one of them in a cup of water for fun and it sprouted! now 4 days later im here with zero equipment (because of Covid) and a little seedling in a little pot. I want to make the best i can to keep it going.
i dressed the inside of my TV furniture with foil, placed 1 computer fan and 2 smaller cpu fans and i leave the door open (i control the temp through my air conditioner). For lights i found a 100W LED from a local shop, but no where near the good lights, i made the math, each diode works at 18% but its epistar at least. i also placed one 20W CFL too and i ll run them together with the LED.
I am planning to drill a hole on the back and put another fan for exhaust and later a carbon filter too.
Am i missing something? Do i need to do something more than this for the first weeks of its life?
And, how long until i need to move it to a tent with proper equipment?
Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading!
Welcome young seedlings don’t need a lot of light but I would recommend using a clear Dome and mist the inside of the Dome a couple times a day to maintain high humidity. Clear drink bottle cut in half will work just fine.
Here is a picture of my totally amateur grow box

One of the small fans blows directly to the cfl to cool it down, the big fan is sucking air from the air conditioned room and the other small cpu fan on the left is blowing a touch of air around the seedling. I am waiting for the LED to arrive to place it on top too.
Thanks i just did that. Should i turn the fans off at this stage? and should i keep only the CFL for now?
Lights will be fine, I usually start a little bit of air movement after I remove the Dome. After about 8 to 10 days you should be done with the dome. Backfilling around the stem when a Seedling stretches is a normal practice.
Im waiting for the soil to completely dry out and i will take it out and put it back deeper, it ll be by the time the light arrives. How far from the plant should it be to avoid getting stretchy again? And also, because its a small space around 40x40cm im planning to make it bushy with training later on, do i need to do something else now except from keeping it short? Thanks
Bro…“clap clap clap” for the macgyver box! I love it!!!
I’ve always had a little bit of stretch in my seedlings but I’ll just back field . I would look at the manufacturer’s recommendations on Light height for seedling. You can always lower it just a little over time and see how they respond.
Kinda looks like u know what ur doing bro…how tall is ur box?
haha… Thanks very much bro! it was nice building it but im planning to make it look better. I got mylar and im also building a trellis so i ll try to tidy everything up and open an exhaust hole too.
Or how tall is the actual grow space? N u said that’s an entertainment center?
Im not sure man, i did a lot of research i wrote everything down like i studied before i start but its still my first time and i know i ll learn a lot more through it. But yeah i always like building stuff. Its pretty short, like 42cm. so its 40x40x42, And its a TV furniture. it has two wardrobes so i used one.
Tryong to make a post simalr to this, but seem to only be abke to reply at the moment. Anyone abke to give me advice on that?
Side note: The reason I came here looking for advise is I think my plant has a deficiency. It’s in veg and the tips are starting to turn yellow red. A few of the leave are starting to lighten in the middle.
I can posylt a pic later.
Welcome to the community !a picture would be a huge help. and if possible fill out the support ticket will also help to get the best feedback.
Good morning guys, (its morning here :p) so it looks my little baby is growing fast and it stretches up, i did a mistake for not putting it in a smaller pot and now because its a lot of soil it takes more time to dry out. I want to dry it out so i can move it to a smaller pot and shorten it too so i took it out (we have a heatwave of 39C right now but its not directly under the sun and im continuously monitoring) so i did this to make the soil dry quicker so it doesnt stretch too much. Is this a good method? Or should i do something else? It looks like the stem stretches real quick when its in the grow box. Thanks
