Thanks a lot for all the knowledge you’ve been willing to share! I can tell almost 5 weeks in that growing is going to be addicting. Lots of fun!
I will look into finding a TDS meter

My question from that is, what if I don’t give them enough water for there to be enough runoff to test? I have been giving them roughly 28 ounces (pH adjusted) about every 3 days or so. They seem to be doing really well with that, no wilting or drooping from over/under watering. If I gave them enough water for there to be runoff to test, I’d be concerned about over-watering. Is this a valid concern?

Yes, and you really can’t do a runoff until plant fits the pot. You’re doing fine.

Hey everybody. Just an update…
I have stopped giving nutrients (aside from CalMag recently). I got a TDS/EC meter. And I got a new light (Growers Choice ROI e-680), which I’m really excited about. Thanks for the insight @Myfriendis410
Lately they’ve been looking a little more droopy, but I don’t think it’s overwatering because they’re on the same watering schedule that they’ve been thriving on. 1/3 gal (~42 oz) every 3 days. It still isn’t enough to get enough runoff to test. I thought maybe it was low humidity? It has been in the low 40s on average lately, sometimes in the high 30s… so added a humidifier. Should I be watering more than 42 ounces?
Recently I noticed lower fan leaves turning yellow and dying. From the picture @BetrayedSoul posted on this thread, I think it’s either nitrogen or magnesium deficiency. I leaned towards Mag and gave them some CalMag yesterday. Yesterday’s feeding was ph 6.5 and 180ppm.
Just checking and making sure I’m on the right path. Any suggestions to fix the yellowing and droopy leaves? Thanks!!

Actually it’s calcium and the fix is cal mag so you done good.

Okay thank you! Could calcium deficiency also cause the slight droopiness in the picture?

Probably the plants are adopting a night posture. Pretty much that’s what you’re seeing.

Looks like chafing to me . . . although your leaves are super dark, which means you may have added nutes too early; looks like you have a lot of N. I’m an organic grower though so don’t take my word for it.

So this “night posture” is normal? They’ve just been perky up until now, so that’s why I was a little worried

Every day about an hour or two before night hours the plant will pull in and ‘droop’ in anticipation of darkness. It will then open up an hour or two after day hours start.

The “droop” is getting worse. Starting to think maybe it’s under watering, although I’ve heard that’s hard to do. But they’ve been getting the 1/3 gallon (~42 ounces) every 3 days or so like I said. Last they were given water was 2-1/2 days ago.
I’m really bad/not confident with the weight and knuckle method of checking if they need water. I just ordered a moisture meter to assist me, it will be here Sunday.
I just read @Hellraiser grow journal, totally worth the time. He waters 1/2 gal for 3 gallon pots, 1 gallon for 7 gallon pots. Since I have 5 gallon pots, with his watering I should be giving them 3/4 gal. I know everyone has their different methods, but with Hellraisers, it’s making me feel like I might be under watering.
I’ll attach some pictures. The plant in the middle has its main branch falling over (circled in red)

Any suggestions are really appreciated!! Reminder I got a new light… but I haven’t heard that new lights would cause this…

Any suggestions or know anyone to tag? Thank you!!

I’m willing to bet lack of water.
Does water come out of the bottom when you water/feed?

@Covertgrower No. Hardly.
But I thought it was normal, haven’t been watering to runoff because I thought they aren’t big enough and it would cause overwatering.
I’ve read a lot about overwatering being the most common issue with new growers, so I’ve been nervous about it.
Here I am doing the opposite potentially

Definitely large enough for run off. Go for it.

Okay will do. Thank you!

Yep, plants are large enough for a big watering with runoff, and yes with my method they’d be getting 3/4 gallon.

I give my five gallon pots a full gallon at least, every three or 4 days depending. “Over watering” at the stage you’re in would come from watering too often, not watering too much at one time. Give them a good soaking, you want 20% run off. Then pick up the pot, you’ll feel how heavy it is. A few days later you’ll find the pot is super light and dirt pulling away from the sides and it’s time to water again.

Okay thank you very much! I plan on giving them each at least a gallon today

Flood to drought method you’ll definitely feel the weight of a dry pot vs a watered one I was hitting my 5 gal.pot every 4 days after runoff
