My secret first grow over the past few months

Hey guys and gals!
So I have a confession to make…
I didn’t document my first grow!
I’ve been busy moving into, and buying a new house, as well as dealing with health issues that have been quite daunting. However, I decided even with my limited time, I would give a go at one of my GSC auto seeds sitting on the side.

This is how it went up to the current time:
I started off pretty confident and cautious, using only the soil and no nutrients as the soil I was using was pretty hot and didn’t seem like it needed much of anything.
Around the 3rd week or so I noticed beautiful buds coming off of her but I’ve been pretty hand off aside from watering so I just admire from afar. (I have done some very light defoliation at this point but no LST or anything as its my first time, I’m too cautious and just trying to have fun trying different things, so plain is first).
Now we go into about the end of the 4th week and I’m noticing some yellowing on the tips, so I ran through most of the things I knew about horticulture (albeit limited) I checked the light level by PPFD, I made sure my water PH was correct and was distilled, I made sure there were no pests, I checked everything I knew, but couldn’t think of anything, so, maybe its time for nutrients? Maybe she is finally starting to work through all the nutes in the soil? It would make some sense seeing as how i made it all the way to the end of week 4… So I’ll start with some small dosing of cal-mag and micro bloom and see where that gets me.
By the end of week 5 its progressed a bit more, so I shot a text to a friend of mine who grows and showed him some photos and asked him if he knew, but he thought maybe nutrient def at first as well… probably not though.
(By now you’re asking me why I haven’t checked the runoff am I right? Well, that’s because I didn’t think to do so… Rookie mistake, as you’ll find out soon)
So I continue, hopeful that the leaf burn wont progress too bad…
week 6 continues
week 7
week 8… I finally check runoff and the PH was atrocious. 9.2PH I don’t even know how it got so alkaline to begin with. I use 2 different PH meters and calibrate them semi-frequently, as well as one of them being a pretty expensive AC Infinity one… But either way I need to push through
So I continued and ended up harvesting 2 days ago at the 11 week 2 day mark and I think she still looks beautiful even with a few issues.
I’ll make sure not to make these mistakes again.
Also I’ll make sure to get a different soil next time as this soil is very alkaline from a slurry test I just did.
I promise Ill start a proper journal for my next grow.
and if you made it this far,
Thanks for reading my autoflower rant. She was a beast who endured.
Much love!
~NP
PS: I’ll be posting some photos in the comments below!

Photo 2: More signs later of issues:

Photo 3: Very evident of how dangerous the leaf-tip necrosis could become

Photo 4: At the end of the day this was the harvest.

I’m a lucky man. I am growing because I enjoy the horticulture and the hobby is helping with some mental health things I have going on, I cant smoke it at the moment but that’s OK, as long as I learned something from it, and I appreciated the journey, I’m a happy man.

Those are some monster thick colas! GSCE Auto will absolutely floor you if you let it go too long, so a couple days early probably won’t hurt you.

So what soil was she in? Most cannabis friendly soils, like Fox Farms and Roots Organics, hold nutrients for 4-6 weeks. When the runoff ppm’s drop around the 1000 mark, it’s time to start introducing nutrients.

All in all, you got a good looking plant there. I don’t think you were working towards necrosis, just depleted leaves and pH issues. But it’s good you noticed the hiccups. We live and learn.

Don’t neglect us here!!! We love pics and questions and shooting the breeze!!!

Thank you thank you! I appreciate every kind word and gesture mentioned above.

Like I mentioned in the post I will be sure to post a pretty detailed journal with tons of pictures of my next plant when I start (should be once this once is done drying) and I’m quite excited to have some help with information as I go this time around. I plan on growing some Feminized Emerald Fire OG Auto so I’m excited to see how pretty she will be!

Also, does anyone happen to have a personal recommendation on drying temp range and humidity range? I read that 60-70 degrees and around 50-60% RH for about 10 days or until the stems snap seems like the average but what seems to be your experiences?? @Borderryan22 @4204life @SausageMahoney

60/60 is ideal.

Like @SausageMahoney said, 60/60 is ideal. My home is poorly insulated tho so if I can keep within 10°/10% of those numbers, I’m content lol

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info!
@SausageMahoney and @Borderryan22
My range has been probably +/- 10 so I think I’m in a similar situation but I think it should be fine haha.

Your story sounds a little like mine. I felt like all I do is work. I used to have so much fun in my life. Do t do much any more. One day I was curious if i could have a successful grow. My main thing is though I don’t want it to taste like nasty home grown. I’m on my first grow now. I love it. Gives me something to do. Also something calming about it. I don’t smoke lol. I love love the smell of fresh flower. I could have my face in a good bag all the time. I have to photo runtz that’s just starting to bud and 1 big bud auto. Even just ran my first run on trying to make rosin.
