Checked my girls this morning and found thrips on one. Moved her away from others, trimmed her up to get rid of affected leaves. Now……should I use neem oil or a synthetic pesticide? I have used the dawn soap mixture to no avail.
Adding bud pics to show how far along she is. I’m a little scared to spray her, but I gotta!! Just not sure what to use exactly.
Outdoor grow. Southeast GA. It’s hot as hell and humidity feels like I’m walking through spun cotton. Other plants look good. Sprayed them with soap mixture to be on safe side, but what should I do with her??
I think it was @Myfriendis410 who actually said to someone to alternate between these two exact products. If it wasn’t him I’m certain it was another forum staff member.
That’s me. The two products contain different bacteria that work on different insects. Thrips are tough and Garrigan actually recommended an alcohol/water spray: this will dry out leaves but thrips will flat kill your plants. A lot of growers bag and discard plants so infected.
Something that I’m sure would work and ought to be fairly benign to the plant would be to bag the plant in a trash bag, leaving the pot outside of the bag. Then crush a pound of dry ice and set in an open container in the bag, seal the bag fairly tightly and leave over night. CO2 environment shouldn’t harm the plant canopy and roots can still get O from ambient sources. That should suffocate pests. You would have to do it again 5 or six days later to get the emergent eggs/larvae.
Know what that feels like. I hate to hear that, I had them on my last run and fought them for 3 weeks and ended up tossing out 4 at week 5. Capt Jacks dead bug is what a lot of folks use and can be used during flower. The resident Thrip expert @Covertgrower is a thrip killer and helped me out. He’s better to advise than myself on this. Good luck
