My first grow crisis help

Yes I was using a Hanna meter that was new. I calibrated and it worked fine at first. It then didn’t work fine but I was too stupid to realise it and I added acid and it kept registerring 7.0 or above. I never thought that the meter might have been bad. Anyway I added a ton of PH down and vinegar to my RO water and still not much change. I had put a question about PH down in another thread before this one was created, I must not have been clear on my question and someone replied about the water being resistant to PH adjustment. After all of the carnage (my killing off of my beautiful babies) I went to my local hydro shop with the suspect meter. I had told the online vendor that I suspected something wrong with meter and he gave me credit for the $48 no questions asked. At my hydro shop they asked the critical question. In the Hanna manual they casually mention about putting a few drops of storage solution into the cap before putting meter away. This is NOT a casual point. This is critical. If the tip dries out as mine must have your meter will fail! That is the lesson I have learned and it only cost me time, 5 WW fem seeds and losing some plants that were progressing nicely. I purchased a new Hanna meter, some STORAGE SOLUTION and a new bottle of PH down  Oddly in my case, using the meter (albeit incorrectly)is what cost me the plants. Had I been flying by seat of pants or even with ph strips I would have been better off and my failure not overnight and irreversible. Mine was not a light problem but a faulty meter and not enough knowledge to suspect what you all would have known. Lesson learned.
Thanks for the input and advice. Nubies store your meter in solution!

Thank you taleone for informing me on how it all went down.
I know exactly how you feel. I to have lost plants just because I wasn’t paying attention. And thoughs were all W W. Like you said " Lesson Learned "

Will

Yup had the bad meter problem in the past also, so in
the future I have been using a little shot glass with
just a little 7.0 PH CALIBRATION fluid in the glass,
when adjusting PH I always put the meter tip into the
shot glass when finished and if it does not reat 7.0
I know its time to recalibrate

Hello guys!
Could i have some feedback on my babies
These are (WW and Sskunk autoflower fem) almost 12 days old after sprouting, from which they spent 5 days outside cz my setup wasnt finished yet, and 7 days inside under a 400 watts HPS, last time i watered them it was their first Feeding, and they were about 20cm away from the lamp at first, then i increased it to 38 cm
I have noticed a bit of curling on the leaves, its not related to their feeding cz it was there before, mu guess was the light, but now even after i put them farther, it still seems they are curling, what do you think guys??

pH?
Soil used?

probably pH

Yeah its used soil, direct from my garden, can that be a problem?

But its very good soil, special mixture with lots of organic nutrients in which my vegetables thrive
In case its a ph problem, how do i fix it

buy a pH tester…drops in water, litmus paper, mechanical tester…you need to know that number, pH, exactly.

once you know that number, you can fix any problem with pH Up or Down

used soil…has it been washed out? left in the rain a few months? Old fertilizers need to be cleansed out or it may be too strong with leftover additives…tho you sound like you know this stuff, just making sure.

I tried indoor grow from 13 years ago, it was a headcahe even though i love gardening plants n all, plus was living with my parents and was on a tight budget, so i switched to outdoor and had few success stories.
Now i wanna give it a shot to indoor again, i know the basics about the plants but concerning everything else related to the soil, ph, humidity n all am a bit in yhe dark.
About the soil, your absolutely right friend, its rainy season over here and it had quite a few showers over the last 3 months, but about the nutrients i dont think there is an overdosage, coz its all organic, and almost impossible to burn your plants with organic ferts.
Thank you for taking the time to help me out bro, i really appreciate it))
Take a look at my setup and tell me what you think

you can burn babies with organics, and they are babies till they have their 4th set of real leaves…you have 2 sets showing.
they look okay, but seedling mix is best, get them off to a good start.

I recall other posts of yours, sorry, what type of light do you have?

you NEED the pH meter, or some way of getting that number…it is IMPORTANT.

the fan is overkill, atm…they do not need it yet and you can harm them, dry them out.
do you have a humidity dome? something to cover them? they like 70% rh.

I will get the seedling mix and smaller pots to start off the next 4 am intending to add, to a total of nine autos in this 1x1 meter box
About the ph meter also but its gonna be harder to find
My lights are 400 watts hps
I totally agree about the fan, thats why i have on the lowest power with the fan stuck on sending the wind on the box wall, so its a very gentle breeze that bounces back, but i dunno if you mean its better to totally off it now, bcz yeah i was afraid that it will dry them, and especially that i dont know the humidity, or how important it is to control it, was hoping to keep things a bit simple :stuck_out_tongue: ,
And i dunno if i can control it cz my box has a 2cm gap on the side connecting with the wall
What do u think?
By the way how often should i feed them?

your plants do not need the fan on them till the same time as you start feeding…the 4th set of leaves.

you do need a clear cover over them, glass, plastic, to hold the moisture in. a humidity dome. a clear soda bottle cut in half, bottom half over each plant.

feeding them…we know you want to feed them…:smiling_imp:…fight the urge.
spend some time reading posts here on growing

do a search on topics about feedings and read while you wait…to fertilize :grinning:

Hahahaha yeah your right, i guess i should try not to burn the steps :slightly_smiling:
And also i guess there is no running from going through the readings again ))) as i said it was 13 years ago! ( i dont believe its 13 years already :flushed:)
I will cut the domes for them tomorrow, too bad i through half a dozen of empty 2L plastic bottles today!,
About the humidity domes, i keep them on till the 4 set of leaves show up?? And, pardon my question :relaxed:, wouldnt that cut them off from the air they need??

they will breathe fine…start taking the dome off and mist when you stop by and look… they will love the attention.
don’t stick the dome in the dirt, just on top…an uneven dirt surface will leave openings for air.

Right on broda!! Thanks for the explanation !! Am all excited about this project and i really appreciate the help and info exchange from you guys!
Thank god i live in an era where internet made all this possible!! Hahaha
Alright man ill keep posting and letting you know my progress, and if any obstacles ( hope not!)

I believe that Ph is important enough to justify buying a good meter if you can swing that. I have a Blue Lab that test Ph, ppm and EC. There are less pricey ones out there that work. Look around. Good luck. Keep it green. Just my 2cents wortth.

I agree…but start up costs for this hobby can be kinda high, and rather someone not get a pH tester because the price is too much, I offered a “starter” one, to be upgraded when possible.
I have an inexpensive model with a better one on my “wish list”, myself.
