They really don’t, unless you have a plant that is finicky about flowering. Sometimes they don’t flower like they should and you have to jump-start them with a light switch.
That said, it is a plant. A weed. All plants need darkness. You could make it short like 20/4 but 18/6 is a safe bet since that is what photo plants thrive at in veg - and still 5-6 hours longer than an actual daylight period - which is the goal. More light but not too much.

Hi @Hogmaster I’m assuming you’re not referring to me as the ‘basher’… I posted the questions/pics and the conversation went south between a couple forum members. Thought the best thing to do would be to delete the post in its entirety but couldn’t figure out how to do that. Glad there is a moderator though, I love this forum, if I wanted to listen to ranting and raving I’d log into FBook. Cheers Stryder1961

Lol ain’t no body bashing anybody I was reassuring the doubt given from his precursor skills in gardening I was again juuust disagreeing with the person that was saying orchids aren’t weed which they aren’t but they are finicky plants that requires more attention then other plants {like top shelf marijuana) and if I can’t reassure someone of there similar and very technical skills they have and tell someone to dirlsreguard a negative post that could shoot some ones hopes down or lower there confidence by all means I will leave gladly if not make it a two way street an say something to the person who’s telling people what they know isn’t worth anything this isn’t the first topic the same person contradicting me… Like trolling my every move… I’m not the big bad basher I’m full of knowledge and I try to help there isn’t problems with anyone with any of my posts except one person can’t we all just get along and encourage each other instead of say 
like really y try and make some one feel like they are inferior to you and your knowledge . I’m not like that because t when someone says somrthing rude and out of line to me I say something back . So maybe we should start at the root and tell him /her they ain’t being productive in the situation either

First - I am not an evil person.
Second - I stay high 24-7 unless I’m asleep - so I’m pretty easy going.
Third - you annoyed me enough to speak up.
As nicely as I can put this - when you toss a paragraph of words at someone asking a question (especially a newbie), and profess it to be the word of God - damn anyone that disagrees - your opinion loses value. Argumentative is not a cool trait, and it is way different from ‘witty banter’

I just don’t get what u guys are referring to attacking anyone I’m telling to disregard negativeity and I related to his orchid farming and found it to be offensive to say anything you know about orchids has nothing to do with weed . Sounds more chauvinistic than anything I’ve said I was encouraging they were discouraging
