3 of the girls are putting on flowers! The big tent is on day 13 since the 12/12 flip, and the small tent is on day 9 since flip.
I have 2 MWs that just have not gotten past the nutrient lockout … what I thought was a calcium deficiency actually turned out to be a sulfur deficiency! So this whole time the reason I wasn’t seeing any great improvement was from a misdiagnosis and improper treatment plan.
I had some super charge juice that I received when I purchased an orange tree some months ago that is loaded with secondary minerals. I went and talked to the folks at the nursery I bought the tree from yesterday and they said you can’t overdose with the stuff even though the recommended dose is 3 Tbsp/gallon of water. I gave them the recommended dose during their last watering a couple days ago and not only has the color on them become a more lush deep green but I have actually seem some dramatic growth as compared to before. So I have high hopes for it!!
** The spots on the leaves in the picture is from a previous neem oil spray.
I think I’m going to grab a jug of this stuff. It has Amino Acids in it and those are supposed to be really good for the plant. I’ve been using TPS Billions or Reacharge every feed but this stuff looks different. Seems like you had great results so I’ll give it a go.
Yeah, I was being discreet yesterday speaking with the guy at the nursery. I try to let this be the only outlet as far as discussing my grow with anyone, because this feels like a safe space. Anyhow, I think the guy caught on a little bit when I started talking pH and nutrient lockout, but he was super cool about it. He did tell me he uses 1 cup / gallon of water and has even used it weekly for serious problems. I asked him if I needed to adjust the pH after mixing it in the water and he told me not to.
It’s expensive on Amazon, I think the price for a quart on there is what I paid for a gallon at the nursery. So, if you have one of these Moon Valley’s near you I would definitely get it there. They had a special going on yesterday, buy 3 items get 1 free. I already needed lawn fertilizer and something for my shrubs, so I picked up 2 more of these as well.
I did, that’s why I went and spoke with them the other day … it did appear to drop the pH some. But, I also have a rather unreliable vivosun pH pen that I have to calibrate often and will slip +/- 0.4 within a couple uses.
I will say though that even though I saw the pH difference (I’m using dechlorinated tap that comes out about 7.7) I did not adjust it and my plants have not been this happy in a long long time. I’m in FF soil.
Correctamundo! My issue with my plants started when I was using pH Down to get my water at 6.8 going in. It locked up my FF soil and my runoff pH was coming out around 4.8-5. So, I did a slurry test with soil about 5-6 inches down and it still averaged 5.5. I’ve been trying to get it up for weeks.
I know some folks have luck and great grows adjusting their pH with FF, and I’ve also seen the opposite with people never adjusting their water going in. I just planted some new beans a week ago and I’m going to run a little experiment just watering in without adjusting. I’m going to see what the buffers in FF can really do. Will be keeping that updated here as they grow.
Oh, i see… i dont use FF soils but now i get it as to why your going in at 7.7.
From what i understand is that, water will take on the soils pH if the water has less than 350 PPMs any how so, it seems counterintuitive to try and adjust it if its going to revert to what the soil is.
Seems like an interesting experiment. I will be following…
No, I’m in Coast of Main Stonington blend. I use gassed off Tap water myself so I’m always making adjustments. I still pH on straight watering days just to be safe.
I’m still new at this and am in the gray about pH and how it behaves…
If you get the stuff, please let me know how it goes!
Edit: One last thing the guy mentioned was that depending on the severity of the issue it could take anywhere from 3 days - 3 weeks to really see the plant bounce back to its vivacious glory again.
Thank you… yes, they do take awhile to show any signs from either stress or improvements… from what i am understanding is that its easier to fix problems when growing in coco compared to soil…
I just watered my MWs and the pH is drifting upwards at 6.7. I just watered in 6.2 to help counteract this but i used straight water with a PPM of 180 so i don’t think it will do much seeing its going to revert to what the soil is anyhow…?
I wish I had a better understanding to ease your mind! I’m right there with you as far as having theories about what the water pH going in is going to adjust to once in the soil. I have read enough to be able to regurgitate, “the buffers in the soil are there to help with pH,” but that’s about as far as I’ve gotten in my understanding of which way they help amend the pH.
I am one of those people that once defeated by something I can’t let it go and I have to figure out how to make that particular thing work. That’s why instead of starting my next grow in coco or another soil mix, I have decided to stick with the FF soil and see if doing the opposite of what I did in this grow will make a difference. If it does then great! I know I can continue to use that soil with great results … if my theory doesn’t work this go around, then I will consider trying something different.
I have your thread set to watching so I can see how your girls do!
Im at the same point in the understanding of pH and buffers and everything. I just need to get it all organized and put together correctly in my mind so that i know whats going on in the soil better. Theres alot of good information out there but you just have to find it. Sometimes i just cant form the question properly and get confusing data…
I switched to watching your thread also. Lets see what we can come up with and grow some beautiful plants…
Right?? I feel like no matter the question I have about anything, I should be able to find it somewhere! Just can’t seem to put words in the correct order LoL.
Well awesome! I love the idea of having buds (no pun intended … well maybe a little) in this journey of figuring it out!
After dropping my first, the second is still junk.
The Apera 20 is nice, but the Apera 60EZ is nicer.
Both work well and calibrate properly.
Cleaning, storage chemical, and monthly calibration (they hold well).
TPS one drops my PH from 7.3 to 6.5
Thanks!! I did order either a Blue Labs or an Apera pen on Amazon about a month ago. It got lost somewhere in transit and never came in so I opted for the refund. I will look into getting another one soon, but have poured enough $$$ into my set up so far that I’m trying to save up until I get something else. That and the hubby started giving me a hard time (in a fun way) every time I got a delivery. Lol.
The price to grow weed, keeps adding up.
Apera 60 plus cleaning, storage, and Calibration Kit (full meal deal, family size).
*replaceable head is important.
Apera 20 (single route).
I’m sorry, i didn’t catch that but like @DEEPDIVERDAVE mentioned. You really need a good pH meter that is reliable. Those cheap ones will definitely get you into trouble!
I cannot stress how important it is. I suggest to reorder that Apera pH 20… i had one of those cheap Vivosun meters and it was waaaay off! Heck, i will even gift you with $25.00 it will help you afford one, seriously!
