Keep them separated unless you want the possible male to pollenate the possible female. At some point those will either bust open with pollen, or grow a white pistil. You could snip one of the balls off and dissect it to see if there’s a clue, but again, not around the other plant.
Update! It’s been a few days and it’s grown some white pistils from the top flower but those ball things are still there. I tried opening one up but it just had tiny green twig things inside. Can you guys please take a look at the pics? @Whodat66 @Hogmaster @raustin image|666x500
So is it a hermaphrodite?
Sorry, but it sure looks male to me. If you have other plants, I would take that plant somewhere out in the country and bury it. ASAP. and hope it’s not to late.
Yeah I was thinking that but thought I’ll give it a few more days, plus my hubby made me feel bad saying I’m going to kill a healthy plant… lol
Yes, it’s a hermie, sorry, but you need to get rid of it before it does damage to any females.
Thanks @raustin
It looks like little pine cones. Weird. I have no clue so I agree with the majority
Yeah, now I’m more convinced that’s a hermie, at least. That flowering top looks a little odd, too.
I know that’s what I thought but didn’t know if that was normal or not. It’s my very first grow.
Oh, on the second pic you can see those opening up into leaves on the back bud-thing
Agree hermi
I’d be inclined to keep it just to see what those purple looking tops turn into. But carefully.
How far away does it need to be from my other plants? I’m on a normal suburban block growing outdoors.
The wind can carry pollen for … well, I don’t really know, but a mile wouldn’t surprise me. On the other hand, I had a smaller male sitting on one side of a pickup truck all summer and it didn’t pollinate the 2 females in planters on the other side of the truck.
Not much help, I know.
Were it me amd I could put it on the other side of the house, I’d be comfortable with the risk.
The truck was s summer project. I don’t use old cars as lawn ornaments.
Cool I’ll think about keeping it on the other side of the house. It’s Spring here in Australia so plenty of time for growing.
If you do that, you will have to take a shower, and change your clothes, every time you walk from the one side of the house, to the other.
That’s just not my experience. Have you transferred pollen by contact in the past? I just don’t find it that insidious.
