I have a friend that grows in Hawaii and outdoor you have preveg your plant or they will go right to flower. Because of the light cycle. A lot of growers there run veg lights after sunset for 3-4 hours during veg in their greenhouse or outside just over the plants. Or else they flower right away and only get to about 12” tall. If you are growing outside like you stated maybe throw some auto seeds out and see how they do. Cannot think of a better scenario to try some autos.

Sorry, not your soil question, but worthy of mentioning in a Hawaii outdoor grow I felt.

How hard is it for you to get a chipper and some coconuts. ? I would try that in Hawaii in my mix.

Are you planning on adding anything else? Any amendments and minerals? What are you planning on for feedings?

I have a recipe in mind for me for next year for a living soil but I want to add 2 tags… @Budbrother and @GreenJewels because I"m still in the process of trying to figure my perfect soil for me here in Cali. I don’t think anything should really be different (for the soil) because you’re growing in Hawaii other than you definitely get more rain than we do… we get ZERO in the summer so I know I need to up my moisture retention and drainage

Thanks for the tag. Budbrother can answer better than me.

a basic 1:1:1 ratio of 1 part good compost mixed with EWC, 1 part aeration, 1 part coco. Thats the base then add your nutrients and minerals.
I’ve not used coco so I have no experience with it, I use peat moss.

For aeration, I use and like a mix of pumice and rice hulls. I’ve used lava rock also and it works great Perlite ends up at the top of the soil eventually.
Build a soil has some recipes listed on their website. Look under the education tab and you’ll find a wealth of information
Growing outdoors you need a good IPM regimen ( integrated pest management)
I’m in ohio and bud rot is inevitable. I try to grow strains that are more resistant to bud rot and powdery mildew d
Good luck and happy growing

I would look at sativas. Any Hawaiian land race strain. Good ole Maui Waui and Kona Gold. This year, I’ve had decent luck with Twenty20 strawberry blonde. A few bud rot buds but not many compared to other strains. I had 3 plants outside and 2 went to the burn pile from bud rot. Strawberry blonde did great. :v::green_heart::call_me_hand:
