Newbie here was curious as to what I needed to do extra for dense buds? Or would that depend on the strain? I grew some apple fritter autos and the buds were loose and leafy?
Welcome @Cstrok to the forum
So the density of buds can be dictated by a lot of factors: nutrients, strain, genetics, lighting, temps… But you have come to the right place for advice! I upped my nutrients this last grow and had better success for more solid buds than my previous grow. Tell us more about the grow you got going on. Soil/grow medium , nutes, lights…it’ll help us help ya out. Again welcome!
Need to know your setup and environment for your grow. What type of lights soil or hydro,. All play a key role in your end product. Strain can play into how a bud ends up but if its kinda larfy bud then sounds like environment is off some way or another whether its ph,ppms, etc something could have been off?
im no pro but just want to share what worked for me. Im on my 5th autoflower grow and my previous grows were all different strains from seed and they were all loose airy buds. im growing two new strains now from seed but this time i have dense tight buds. i included all that ingo because i cant rule out genetics. BUT the one change I was advised on and made was lowering my light intensity. All previous grows i keep my DLI as close to 45 as possible thinking that would increase yield. This time when plants started flowering i decreased light intensity down to 30 DLI. It seems to be working and im very happy. best of luck, sorry for the long post.
Good info posted by others here for you. If you’re seeing a high leaf to calyx ratio this is mostly genetic. You can definitely find strains that have a more fluffy bud structure than others, but poor bud density is often from poor environmental conditions. Light intensity, temperatures, and stuff like this.
