Hey all, need a little help here. I posted to the AI model training post section and I am also posting here for help. Gelato OG Autoflower started 4-1-25. This is an outdoor, hydro setup. 5-gallon bucket. 4-inch air stone hooked to a 25-watt air pump. Masterblend 3-part system to manufacturers specs. PH between 5.8-6.2. If it gets above 6.4 I will PH down. 900-1100 PPM depending on when last fed. EC of about 1.9-2.1 depending on feeding as well. I don’t do a complete change of the bucket as I have heard others talk about the shock to the plant, so I supplement it up as needed. 3-inch air gap below 6-inch net pots. Roots are white, healthy and abundant. Went out today for checking and this is the only one of my 4 hydro plants that is showing this. The others look great. Looks like CAL-MAG to me, so I just added another 20cc of CAL-MAG into the bucket to see if it starts to turn it around. If not, I will do a dump and flush with all the solution and start a new nutrient batch in that bucket. Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
That appears to be some sort of fungal infestation or plant disease. The withered, wrinkly appearance of he leaves along with the abundant rust spots. Are you growing hydro outside???
Yes, I have 4 outside in hydro. As well as some in soil fabric bags, soil in pots, and soil in the garden.
Went ahead and did a full bucket water and nutrient swap. PH to 5.8. PPM to 900ish, EC to 1.9. Sunny day in SoCal so plenty of light.
Consider water temp. Hydro is best kept under 70° if that’s high it causes root problems and issue with uptake. Which is why hydro is primarily an indoor thing. Water temps get too hot then problems can be endless, looking like various deficiencies.
Even indoors, often times people need to supplement a chiller to keep water temps down.
Hey @Low thanks for your input. Luckily, we have been having great temps outside for the past couple of weeks. Highs have been 68-72 for the last 14 days with lows at 49-56. I’m currently doing a double bucket system. Dark inside bucket to block light to keep algae at bay dropped inside of a white bucket to reflect sunlight and keep the temps down. Haven’t seen water temp rise above 72 degrees yet. It does seem a little better from my bucket clean and nutrient swap, but still not fully recovered. My other 3 hydro buckets, literally right next to each other, are going like gang busters. I have a White Truffle photo, a Gold Leaf photo, and a Papaya Kush Auto (from the grow tour) that are all doing terrific. These are all from ILGM. Only this one Gelato OG Auto is showing any signs of having any sort of problems. I’m waiting a few more days to see if it improves. I truly appreciate your input and hope to get this resolved.
Good to hear, now is that temp rising and dropping throughout the day?
EC of 1.7 is a good place to be. I’m a high frequency coco grower so not straight hydro, but similar numbers apply. Are you incorporating any sort of oxygen?
The others not showing issues, are they shadowed more throughout the day? Over exposer could also play a part.
More light more demand
@Low Thanks again for chiming in. Temps have not really been fluctuating, just gradual warm up/down depending on time of day. Usually the warmest part of the day is around 2pm. SoCal. 4-inch air stones going 24/7 from an 8-port distribution block, driven by a 25-watt air pump. Plenty of bubbles. Others are not more shadowed. They are all within about 18 inches of each other. Have them on a dirt surface so not on concrete to build up and reflect heat. (I learned that lesson…lol)
Hahaha
Well shoot man, the other I could see in the pic looks like it’s thriving. Picky plant or root issues. Unfortunately sometimes you do have a picky one. I like to do 10-18 on a singular system and they can all look great aside from 1 or 2. Choosing to cater to one plant may have negative impact on the others. So it’s one of those games…
I’m with @Borderryan22 on this one. Everything else sounds good.
What do the roots look like?
Hey @AfgVet , the roots look good. Not quite as plentiful as some of the others, but not bad. Definitely white and pretty long. Just got done checking PH and PPM/EC, all seems to be well. I took off the most affected leaves just now and see how the rest of the plant does. If it doesn’t make it, or is sub-par, I still have one of these Gelato OG Autos in an ILGM Grow bag in soil. Hate to lose her, but I’m willing to cull if needed. Thanks for your input.
Just a quick update, the plant didn’t really recover the way that I wanted it to. So, I made the decision just to pull it (still have about a dozen others). I sanitized the bucket with hydrogen peroxide, gave it a good rinsing, and filled it up with nutrients and correct PH to use on my other gals. (Insert dirge music here). All is well, keep on growing!
