Something must have bumped the light switch because they turned on an hour early. The plants are in my bedroom so i immediately turned them off, within a minute or two. The plants are in the seedling stage, week 2.
Do i have to worry about hermies or premature flowering?
Thanks guys. Iām just extra cautious, better safe than sorry. I will put the power strips with the timers in a better spot where they are unlikely to be touched by anything. Iām raising baby chicks in my bedroom right now and they have just started flying out of the brooder box, so maybe one of them stepped on the light.
I think i am fortunate to learn this lesson in the first couple weeks of growth when the plants sexual hormones are not already raging. I remember last year i had a few experiences with lights being wonky. A few plants flowered prematurely at about one month old, but i believe that was due to heat stress. My landlady wasnt allowing me to have an air conditioner and i was on the upper floor, so my bedroom would be over a hundred degrees regularly and I believe that was the main factor in a few of them flowering early. But most of the plants turned out fantastic.
Haha, yeah, that place was terrible. I already moved out last year in October. I did eventually get an AC in July - I offered her 50 more dollars per month to be allowed to have an AC or i would move out. I told her to take the money and run, so she did. But not until after i tortured my cannabis babies.
Although in some ways I think putting young plants through sone rough treatment early on can be beneficial if you plan to move them outdoors. Sure, a very hot environment will make some plants flower prematurely or even die, but the ones that remain will be super hardy. If a few plants die, those were probably genetically weaker than the others. When i moved my plants outside to the hot sun they didnāt mind at all. My roommate on the other hand used a temperature controlled grow tent (which my landlady allowed him to do because she liked him more) which he kept at 70 degrees. He didnt harden his plants much either (taking them outside for short periods). Then he transplanted them outside and they showed signs of sunburn and heat stress, leaves twisting to shit. I feel that plant stress is not inherently good or bad and should instead be used as a tool. Itās all about balance. Too much stress and you will ruin a plant by overwhelming it. Too little stress and you will ruin a plant by making it too weak.
My personal best was a bag seed grown outside with Miracle-Gro soil, time released tomato fertilizer and orchid bloom booster in full sun all day in Florida. 95ā° average and 80%rh when it wasnāt raining. That stuff would make you see cross eyed!!!
I actually also use mechanical timers. You mean the ones with the pins that you push up or down and then turn the dial to the time thst you want?
Again, i dont believe there is an issue with the timer. One of my baby chicks flew out of my brooder box and was running around my bedroom. I think it stepped on the timer.
