`Almost ready to plant my seedlings (white widow autos ) should I leave lights on or off to sprout and break ground ?
Leave them on so they know which way is up
Sounds like he’s being funny… but totally right
The lights won’t need to be on until they break through but I generally leave mine on so that there is light when they finally break the soil.
Ok got it thanks
I’m 99% sure that’s wrong dude, enjoy being proven wrong though so go for it please
What’s wrong?
Gravity is what tells the plant which way to grow not the light. If you put a germinated seed in soil with no lights it will pop out of the soil. Though it is good to have the lights on so when it does break through there will be light for it.
I have a shop light with the reflector on it with 100 W CFL are usually just start them in a napkin taproot down in a solo cup with medium You only want to put them in a bout a quarter ranch and cover them up and then mist as needed but I keep my light on there after I’ve put it in the soil/medium you can do it with no light but it will take a little longer for it to break dirt you have to treat your plants like a person they need sleep as well so you want to have the lights on for at least 18 on 16 off all the way down to 14/10 till you’re ready to put in flour and switch to 12/12
Gravity tells the roots to go down, the light tells the plant to go up
In my experience they sprout faster with a light on vs no light. And they seem to sometimes grow down instead of up and sprouting semi underground when I didnt have lights on. Imo I had more success when placing seeds showing taproot in soil with lights on 14/10-18/6 vs seed with taproot and no light. They both work though light or no light…
Thank you so much for info…
Interesting stuff… learnt something new today
