Lighting questions!

Hello everyone i have a question on lighting. I am currently running 3 mars hydro ts600’s in a 3x3 for a total of 300 watts. My question is would the 300 watt mars hydro fc3000 produce better buds or any other single 300 watt light Or is 300 watts 300 watts? Im a new grower so trying to learn. Ideally i want to grow the best bud possible so would it be beneficial to buy a single light?or would there really be no significant difference with the wattage being the same?
thankss

Good evening  I am no expert but I have herd other growers say they put more lights to up the watts to what was required. I think the only way it would be better to have just one light is if it had more watts and the coverage was better. JMHO. Ask @dbrn32 he us the light expert. Happy Growing :v:

You would have way more control on a single fixture that is dimmable for specific time in your grow.

Nope. The photon efficacy of every light can be different. This is usually shown in umol/joule or ppf per watt per second. If light A performance is 2.0 umol/joule and light B is 3.0 umol joule, then 300 watts of light A has photosynthetic photon flux of 600 umols/s and light B has photosynthetic photon flux of 900 umols/s. Light B is 33.33% more efficient thus also has 33.33% more radiometric light energy with the same amount of power.

Key note, just because an advertisement clsims a certain efficiency is not always true. Look for lights that link a third party integrated sphere or gonio test result.

I’d add that different lights operate in different ranges of the spectrum. That combined with umol/watt can lead to very different results with two 300 watt lights. I’m gonna have to get on the payroll, but 300 watts of HLG or ChilLED will outperform anything else on the market.

The difference, other than watts, between the TS600 and the FC3000. is the diodes each uses. The 600 has BridgeLux diodes and FC3000 uses Samsung 301B diodes. The 301B diodes are rated higher and are more efficient than BridgeLux.
Even though the FC3000 is 300 watts, its core (flower) coverage is only 2.5’. This leaves you a little short at the edges.
ViparSpectra has upped its game considerably. Its KS3000 is also 300w, uses Samsung 301H diodes (newest most efficient Samsung diode) and is a bigger fixture with better coverage in a 3x3

As alot the crap china light manufactures are using Sammy 301H diodes now and it’s part of there marketing. These parts are lower bin and tier diodes. Samsung and HLG have a developmental partnership in engineering and design pushing the LED tech forward. HLG gets all the top bin parts for themselves and the rest go to the other manufactures. HLG Diablo and Scorpian lights have the newest EVO diodes some of these parts are now showing up in other manufactures products. But there not top spec like HLG uses. While none of this is a secret it’s a game thats played out at the manufacturing, production, marketing levels. And has been for decades…

Samsung diodes are over rated?

Fiscal constraints force me to utilize all lights available from old inventory, until upgrade possible.
PPFD and full coverage being tthe goal. Temperatures sure rise with 5 different lights. HLG Diablo and Scorpian lights desired.

Upgraded to HLG 350R, 260D-Kit and UVA30.
Thrilled beyond belief.
