Light for seedlings

Question from a fellow grower:

This is my first grow. I have 1000w HPS lights. Will this be too much for the seedlings? Do I need to get LED also?

I use a 100 watt CFL for first few weeks of veg it worked great for my autos

A single 23 watt, 6500K CFL bulb is plenty to do 2-3 seedlings, depending on your spacing and lamp fixture. Keep it just a few inches away and run it 24 hours a day for the first 2 weeks.

To answer your original question… yes, 1000 watts of HID is too much for seedlings, unless you put it really far away. You can just spend a few dollars on a CFL bulb and a clamp light and be all set, though.

Seedlings don’t require much.
