Light before sprout?

I was wondering, what are the views on when to begin light for a seedling… before or after it has sprouted from the media?

Once the seedling is in soil I put it in a humidity dome with 24/7 light for the first week or so. Then 18/6 from there.

I do exactly the same thing as @Smhtwo, but I germinate directly in the damp soil. It’s a bit more risky, but all of the seeds I have purchased have worked out. I wouldn’t recommend it, but when they break the soul, they are ready for light with my caveman method.

Ok, that’s what I was wondering about. You say light once it breaks the soil and @Smhtwo says after it is in the soil. I did put a dome (plastic cup) over each of the seeds. My light is on a wifi plug so I may go ahead and give them some light,

But if he more carefully germinates his and plants after it breaks the shell, he and I have them both hitting the light at almost the same time.

And I just read back. I wasnt clear. When I first do it my way, I turn the lights on as soon as the seed is buried. I just meant they need light immediately when they break soil. They need direction in life.

I put the germinated seed In the soil about 1/2 inch deep And turn on light 24/7 The light helps to keep the soil warm. Usually In about 3 days, they pop their head through. Just one way of getting there . Good luck.

Ok, I got you. Both opinions are going down the same line. I just turned the light on in the tent for the ladies and I can monitor the environment from my phone. I am currently at 71% rH and 77F at the time I turned the light on.

Thanks, I am trying to learn patience in all aspects of life and this has been testing me so far. But you along with @QueenCityB and @Smhtwo all seem to be suggesting in the same direction so I think that is what I will go with and give them some time to show.

Temps perfect.

Spark a bowl and do something else.

Before long when you look in…

Poof…

Little green life!

Seedlings always test my patience We all want them to grow fast. But The root system will start to develop first before you see foliage take off. I also cut back to 18/6 as mentioned once I get a small seedling.

You all are pretty much backing up some of the trusted info Ive gotten. Just had to verify, part of my OCD…did someone say bowl???

Ok, part 2(sorry). Just checked in, now that lights are on, the temp sits around 82-83 and the humidity stays around 71-73. I have a small clip fan blowing down on the light and a inline fan but when the inline runs it sucks all the humidity out (35%ish)is this ok or is there a solution?

You dont need to run a fan yet

High humidity in a still tranquil dome environment is good.

The dome keeps it high to sorta help you make sure all the baby cells stay hydrated when it is just starting life.

Ok, I was more concerned about the temp. I thought 80 might be pushing it

And soil a little warmer is good too.
Just like mamas womb.
You’re all set.

Hello @MrPeat , I was wondering since you mentioned it. How do you like your HLG? I was looking at the HLG 100 V2 vs the Spiderfarm SF 1000 for my next light.
