Thanks for the input! I’m going to look at 260’s.
@dbrn32 I’m getting weary of waiting for the plc light strips. It seems they’re perpetually sold out.
What are your thoughts on the 757 optisolis on cutter? A flowering light build using the 2700k 97cri strips. With 97 cri would they be a better light for flowering than the plc strips or hlg r spec boards?
@Drinkslinger try the 3030 j strips from cutter. 90CRI.
The ones cutter fabs with Cree 3030s? They’re certainly cheaper, but I’d think 97cri of the 757 might edge out the 90 Cri on the cutter strips.
I’m looking to build a really really good flowering light. Cost is always a concern, but not a deal breaker. I’m not afraid to pay for something that will flower better than my current plc strip build.
I’m tempted again by the fluence lights, but believe that I can build the same or better for less money.
The difference between 90 and 97 CRI is negligible. And at quite a bit of cost difference it wouldn’t bother me a bit.
The 3030 strips seems to work great for flowering for me.
@Drinkslinger
Anyone else watch sickids video? If not, you can just skip to around 18:30 to see relevant cannabis info. Btw. That far par sensor is $500-$600. Ouch.
The takeaway is blue isn’t so important, UVA is, red and far red are, but only in the proper ratio at the proper time. Hence hocking the apogee far par sensor.
If you’re chasing light spectrum more than light output, they are good choice. I don’t really know that you’re going to see a monumental difference for the cost, if any. If you’re looking at getting photons into your space those 3030j strips are a really good choice. The 3000k 90cri is going to give you more blue, 660, and 720 than a 3000k qb, and they are cheap enough to drive soft and make up for lower efficacy of the 90cri phosphor.
But, according to that video… blue is a non starter.
I don’t think photons are what I’m after. I think spectrum might be more important. But what do I know, I’m just a pot smoker.
Not just any pot smoker, haha!
How true that is. I’m pretty picky. I get a lot of shit for packing bowls, taking 2 hits, and knocking it out.
I watched 1 min from the middle of that video, and I drew 1 conclusion. You have to be able differentiate between height and development, can’t just say growth. Go find pictures of people trying to grow with incandescent bulbs. Those bulbs have more far red and ir than any other type of lighting in terms of spectral distribution, and they grow like shit.
I’m not discounting the need for broad light distribution, because loads of blue light and little red light doesn’t exactly grow well either. But you want to be reasonable with expectations on both accounts.
Personally, I thought that video was 17 minutes of yawn 2 minutes of good info, and 1 minute of shilling…
Also they admitted to the flaw in their research.
I may have picked that up if I watched the whole video lol.
@dbrn32 I’m sure you’ve answer this question a million times now but I finally have some money to update my lighting. I have been looking at the 260 watt QB v2 Rspec from hlg Canada. The price is 555 all in Canadian and I was just wondering if I could build this light with the same spectrum for cheaper.
Good question. I would say yes if you were in US, but I’m not sure how you get parts there to do it cheaper. I know you could do something in all whites, as digikey Canada will supply leds and driver. But they don’t have any modules that include 660nm to my knowledge.
You could check on Alibaba for reputable distributors that have similar boards, then see what pricing would be.
I was looking around and noticed I could buy the hlg 288 v1 boards on the American site and wait for their end of November free shipping deal. Would two of those boards work well in a 2x4? I’m really hoping to find a light that can help produce dense flower. I’ve upped my nutrient game and I really want to upgrade my lighting to something killer.
Thanks @dbrn32
Ya, two 288 boards is pretty much what a 260 kit is. Although the v1 boards aren’t r-spec, if you were going that route you could probably build sourcing all your stuff from Canada.
I’m not sure if that free shipping applies to delivery outside of US?
I’m a product of the '70’s myself so I save every roach. After a couple of weeks; I throw them all away. Same as you with the bong: I like a fresh terpenes hit and not one loaded with toasted cellulose haha.
And just like that, the cannabis lighting gods heard my plea. PLC Lightstrip pre orders are now being accepted.
I’ll have a new light by the end of the year!
