The “white” leds usually contain a substantial amount of green wavelengths.
Could those fit in that center spot on the 260xl?? Just curious or would I better use a separate plate? Either way would there be any advantage in adding the red???
Rspecs dont have anymore far red then regular say 3000 v2 boards no? R spec is 660nm right and far red is beyond 700 … and @dbrn32 does far red wavelengths have anything to do with the role of far red phytochrome?
It might penetrate better but if it’s not absorbed isn’t it it less usefull or did I miss it say that there is still significant photosynthesis with the green light
There are probably some that would fit, but I’m not aware of any that I can point you directly too. Cutter electronics maybe?
Red is target for peak chlorophyll absorption, among other things.
Those are true statements.
Borrowed from research document
Characteristics of phytochrome-mediated responses:
- The action spectrum of the light needed for these responses shows a peak in the red at about 660 nm.
- These responses can be reversed by an application of far-red light (peak at 730 nm) soon after the red treatment.
- Sensitive spectrophotometers can measure a decrease in absorbance at 660 nm and in increase in absorbance at 730 nm when sensitive plant tissues are exposed to red (660 nm) light.
- The change in absorbance is caused by the conversion of a the photoreceptor from one structural form to another. The red-absorbing form changes to the far-red absorbing form when it absorbs red light (660 nm) and back again when it absorb far-red light (730 nm).
The phytochrome molecule is the photoreceptor for red light responses. It exists in two forms, Pr and Pfr:
The Pr form:
- Absorbs at a peak of 666 nm
- Is the form synthesized in dark-grown seedlings.
- When Pr absorbs red light, it is converted to the Pfr form.
The Pfr form:
- Absorbs at a peak of 730 nm
- The Pfr form is the active form that initiates biological responses
- When Pfr absorbs far red light, it is converted to the Pr form
- Pfr can also spontaneously revert to the Pr form in the dark over time = dark reversion; Pfr is also susceptible to proteinases.
- Pfr absorbs some red light, so in red light, there is a balance of 85% Pfr and 15% Pr
- Pr absorbs very little far red light, so in far red light, there is a balance of 97% Pr to 3% Pfr
So the green illuminates the green in the plants leaves as it passes through it giving it better penetration but really it’s just passing through and not getting effectively absorbed at the top that’s getting the reds and blues… it’s strange he said added 50 far red photons on 20 species made a positive difference and then he goes to tomatoes says it’s a bad growth cucumber is a bad growth…so is leafy veggies it’s good for but what about cannabis who ever shared that video find one on canabis please I know tomatoes are closely related to canabis sativa and can be grafted to weed so are they saying in other words that far red is undesirable and cause lankyness since that’s what it does to the tomatoes plant?
I didn’t watch the video and I don’t grow tomatoes, so not really sure.
Yea man u can actually graft buds onto tomatoes plants
Rememeber that Simpson’s episodes about the “tomaccos” tomatoes grown into tobacco plants and the cows went crazy for em eating them I belive it was poking at the canabis tomatoes
I hate tomatoes lol
It’s official. You have no soul, you have turned to the devil. And his name is single malt.
Then you my friend have never grown a tomatoes plant with love the tomatoes you get from the store are almost always picked green and flashed with nitrogen to get them to turn red so they have extended shelf life… but a home grown tomatoes taste so different it’s almost sweet and sour nothing like the ones you can get at the supermarket …just like weed you grow it’s just better and sprinkle a tiny bit of salt on it …dont even get me started on some good mozzarella and parmesan and basil to go with it
Me too my friend! Nasty lil red juicy balls!!
I am running for a sandwich now
Run Mario Run! Don’t for Luigi!!!
Exactly. I didn’t realize the far red(eod) light was plugged in. Qb were on 24/7 eod 6minutes for 12days. On one end of the room the plant was completely exposed to the light on the other it was shielded. In between a little less. I’m pretty sure the long one has SAS. Crazy stretch. image|375x500
Continuing the discussion from Let's talk DIY lights:
Hi. I’m just finishing my second grow. 4x4 tent, soil, Viparspectra Par1200 dimmable… I really want to upgrade my light. I’m really considering the HGL VR 550 rspec. I know that the 600 kit is cheaper, but I like the convenience of the plug and play, and the price will not be a factor in my decision. would this light be too much in my tent? Or would the 600 kit be better.? Thank. Also my next grow, I’m moving to ProMix if that’s a factor.
I think your best bet there would be to go with two 260xl kits. It’s better coverage and more flexibility than either of options you listed, and closer to 600 kit in price. If you want plug and play you can pay a little extra to have growerslights assemble and test.
