Kettle's 1st proper indoor grow, DWC

Those orchids are beautiful, everyone i know who grows orchids well says they torture them. going into a orchid garden full bloom, more impressive then most weed blooms

if i could find the energy id love a pitcher plant terrarium, orchids, but i come from aquariums and just don’t have that energy, if you know what i mean.

Terrariums need constant attention! Had a few habits I made with pitcher plants and amphibians… had it going for a few years before moving and never rebuilding the setup.

It was very beautiful to look at, huge pain to keep maintained.

Orchids are very easy, I just use air planters and keep water in the bottom of the self feeders they have. They usually start blooming in a month of that routine. Then I work like a mad man in the spring/summer and they all die off.

my favorite, (as stupid as that sounds) in this garden however is the light green vine that looks unwell. i planted that halfway up. didn’t like it in the expanded clay ball pocket, so dismembered the roots. then has circled around the wall a couple of times, holding on with hooks, finally settling with its feet in the res, with only one or two roots small roots in the H2O (the rest rotting off) and pretty much sticking in the shade

I’m staying away from the terrariums. oh you had amphibians too. epic that’s what id do. hard work i can imagine. do you have any old photos?

So just went to the post office to reload my supply, with Aqua Vega+ Flores. By my math i should be right for a while, but not too long… now the add bud, im guessing its not going to be apples with apples however the BOOST is quite expensive, so $24 vs $150 even if i can do tests down the line to go half half etc, im guessing there is molasses in there somewhere , thoughts? but mainly i had to get to $400to get a free Rizotonic. Now silicone, i have been buying weed up until this point, nowhere to grow, no excuse i know. now there has been a rise of well grown weed with tree trunks in the centre is this the culprit? and how does the plant get the silicone in nature? by silica breaking down? now i can tell u silicone is such an inert substance you can literally torture it in the sun and it doesn’t breakdown for years, im not saying i don’t think it may not be needed and may not be included in trace element fertilisers, but surly the amounts should be so miniscule that i should be adding drops to a 200 litre system right? this wasn’t a thing 10-15 years ago that i can remember (used to be part of forums back then), and the plants grown then were intimidating…

Dog for scale.

Like these or bigger? I’m sure the larger the plant the bigger the trunks. Mine shoot off a million ways pretty quick tho but I don’t use anything too crazy, guano and normal stuff

Jesus bob, that looks like it belongs outside. sorry should have worded this better, there is a lot of talk about silica additives, what do you think and what’s the logic, or science, do u use it? i have like pure rainwater 0 ppm, so was going to cal mag…i meant the steams inside the buds are rock hard and thick sometime, hang on ill try and find one

only from some suppliers, struggle to get scissors through that, read somewhere that this could be because of too much silica additive, could this be the case and should i worry?

cheers kettle

I’d worry about anything I didn’t grow myself but that just personal preference.

I don’t know about silica additives to tell you the truth but now I’m going to look into it and everything I put into my girls.

On a brighter note, my gorilla zkittlez reg just popped pistils so she won’t need to be cut and destroyed! Others are clones from another mother same strain so no worries there. She’s a beast of a bitch tho, that came from a cloning of the reg seed that stalk had an issue and I ended up destroying and making clones of

no shit what a mission, I hope it is worth it. stoked about the reg seed though, I need a mother an have read that I should use reg seeds, make sense genetic stability, I can just imagine having to cull 4/5… probably start with a feminised first, and I’m liking what’s on offer at southern cross seeds, also to support a local. I have a few seeds before then too.

Just found out I have a birthday lunch on Saturday where I am (6 hours away from my room), so the brand spanking new system will have to go another day unattended. 6 days… lucky I’m inexperienced at hydro growing.

Should be right…

Haha probably do better without me there,

I know, welcome GD I was just checking out your last grows GD super impressive congrats mate, thanks about silica, just working my way through a very large information base, I actually learned of the amount u used from your grow, witch is the same volume…

Sunflowers reminds me of France, at the right time of year where our friends live, all you can see are sun flowers, you have to drive around for hours if someone hasn’t been there before that time just to get that perfect sun flower photo.

10 ft, just put your seeds outside man, let your misses look after it

So 3/6 auto are going well, two stalled, ones stunted. not much above but the roots are growing out of the side of those 8 inch pots. 3/5 of the photos are sprouted and are already doing well, except I left them in a plastic bag and the seed husks were stuck for the last few days, I’ve got a new set up that will fit in the end, what it will transfer the autos in.

i have new nutes so as i start with 0ppm i added calmag i think to 0.2, and half canna aqua range, +supplements , this took my ec to 0.8, then pHed to 5.8, for the time being they can all hang out in that system so I don’t have to mix up nutes x2 just yet but when I do the sumps? I think of them as sumps on the same level current culture calls it an epicentre will be next to each other in the other room…

I have a heater its keeps it to 22-23’C, and a fan too.

How does this sound? hope your all well

Hey man, get that rock wool covered with hydroton where it doesn’t get any light, or else you will wished you had.:sunglasses:

There should be a air gap of 1"-2" from water to netpot’s with the bubbles from the airstones wetting hydroton watering seedlings
Its better if everything stays dry on top, keeps algae away.

What does it prevent bud? moisture loss, or pathogen growth?
