@GreggT @MoFo, thanks for the reply, guys. i really appreciate it. And that’s per gallon of water in the system correct? Is there a different formula when they transition to flower?
I have no idea. I have never used it. I just saw your question and found an answer for you. Maybe @Fieldofdreams has an answer. I think he uses Jacks @robert365
One adjustment mentioned to me was, giving a “bolus” of some kinda bloom boost at the beginning of flowering. Never have, stuck to the recipe.
@robert365 here is the flower modification
During flower
5-12-26 until dissolved 3.79 gr/G
Epsom salts .99gr/G
Cal Nitrate 2.52gr/G
@MoFo is the cal nitrate in flower the part B of jacks? And i purchased a 650R diablo light but i cant find any kind of manual that will help me with light intensity and height of light for veg or flower stages
@robert365
Yes, jacks part B is Calcium Nitrate. I would suggest that you get a luxmeter and be sure to measure light intensity when the tent is mostly closed. Then, you can use the calculators on HLG’s site and identify your DLI and dial it in. Be sure to identify the right calculator for your light or the diodes on the light. QB 648 same as me with the Diablo Scorpion.
Is it ok to mix this up in 5 gallons at a time, and then ph upon using?
Yes but depending on how long you take to use the solution beware of ph drift. After a few days I’d double check with your meter.
@GreggT @Graysin @Grandaddy013 @kaptain3d @so it was suggested to me that i ise 3in net pot and 2in rockwool cubes for my system. So i cut the holes in my tote lids for 3in. And it took almost 60gals. To fill my 27gallon totes to 2in below net pot i which i thought was alot , especially given the amount of jacks nutes id need to use in 60 gals of water. So im asking people for there opinions should i use the 6in pots or stay with the 3 and repipe in smaller totes i think 3.79grm per gallon of jacks part A comes out to like 227.4 grms i mean i have 25lb bags but do you think its alot for a 2 tote rdwc system . I know the final choice is mine but id love to hear peoples thoughts on this. I could keep them as is and see what happens obviously. And how often should i think of changing out my res? Also ive never used rockwool before do i need nutes after first set of leaves pop out or just straight into my system? Using tap which is like 7.2 do i need to ph down the rockwool cubes before putting tap root in it? Appreciate any and all replies
Brother I would love to give you advise on that but I have never done RDWC. Maybe Michael would be a good choice for advise.
I appreciate it brother, i talked to mike but he uses smaller totes and not recirculating system and changes out his res weekly tagged you again im just tryi g to other people’s opinions before i germ my beans lol
It doesn’t sound absurd. I built my system to take just about 40 gallons - a 27 gal tote and 4 5 gal buckets, less the volume it took to get to 3” below the net pot.
The thing is you’re going to want to decide early on if you want to have a reservoir that you replenish, or change out regularly.
I decided I am lazy, and thus I rely on beneficial microbes (Hydroguard or Southern AG’s Garden Friendly Fungicide) to keep the bad nasties out of my water. I had a “living” hydroponic system, as opposed to a sterile system (which relies on pool shock, h2o2, or similar to keep all bacteria, good and bad, out).
The living system, much like living soil, can be left alone for the most part and all you really want to do is monitor pH and PPMs - ensure that you replenish when the water level gets too low and be sure to not over-feed (it won’t need to be full strength Jack’s every time you add water).
The sterile system gets replenished a couple of times, they say to do a full clean and change of the water when you’ve topped up half as much as your reservoir was to begin with - so once you’ve added 30 gal to the system, it would be time to empty it out and change for fresh water.
The sterile system will use more nutrients over time, just because it will need to get dumped and start over from scratch once every few weeks.
You better get that shit going!! You have today and tomorrow to work it out!! Cant work on it this weekend!!
@Graysin , i set my system following @HappyHydroGrower recomendations as he says he only changes his water at transition stage , so im guessing ill be doing the living system as well i probably shouldve gotten smaller totes but couldnt find 20gal totes like he used so i opted for 2x 27 gal totes 2 for plants and a 32 gal for my res i belive i used 7 5gal buckets to fill it and reach 2in under net pots which is only 35 gals total not 60 lol @GreggT im just letting plain water run tbrough now until after the convention and repairing 3 small leaks i discovered . Going forward, I’ll need help from others. When ppms starts to drop, i put a fish measuring tape in res to watch water levels. And after this weekend, im going to completely drain the system with a pond pump and mark measuring tape every 5 gals for the first 30 gals and then each gal till i get to 35 in the system . It’ll be at least a week before I think germing seeds id like my system to run as smoothly on its own as possible. But i have a choice peet pellets or rockwool cubes . And im thinking of using hydrogen peroxide to run thru this next week to ensure everything is clean before thinking of purting nute solution in system then when i do it will be Amori Si, Hydrogaurd, jacks A+B and epmsom only for entire grow and changing water when i transition to flower stage
So looking on the net it says to multiply width x length x depth divided by 231 of my res tote once system is full to figure out how many gallons plants used ,does this sound right. This is going to be an adventure using new system. But once i get it all figured out it should run smoothly for future grows lol
Rockwool.
Peat can get too wet, and it constricts when it dries out. It can suffocate the roots of young plants.
Honestly I have no clue. I just eyeball it.
@Graysin ok ive read here that some ph the water before soaking the cubes and shake off excess, is that correct ? Do you use any nutes with this as well once seeds pop out of rockwool?
@Graysin would you do an auto in your system with a photo plant and just follow guidelines for the photo? Will an auto thrive on the 12/12 light cycle
I soak my rockwool in full nute water at pH 5.8, usually I just scoop a little water out of my res and plunk the cube into the water.
I soak for 15 minutes, then set the cubes on a paper towel to drain for another 15 minutes.
Yep. I run autos all the time on 12/12. They don’t get quite as big as they could if they got 24/0 light but I don’t ever grow autos for size. Just variety.
I use 5" or 6" net pots with 4" rockwool with buddy stones stuffed in the gaps myself…even when I was deep water @robert365. It might be better to get the root structure started @robert365 . I use a flood table now and I put them on the table as soon as they have several nodes started so I want them to get going as fast as possible
I used 3" nets for the little bubble cloner I made and they were great. I just transferred the clones to 6" pots when they were ready. You asked for opinions. This is what I do.
