@Mosca I don’t think it matters much. When adding new water, I make sure it’s a little warm, that helps with desolving the nutes. I have a submersible pump with a hose quick disconnect that I use for both mixing and irrigating. It works pretty well, but I found that the solution would spoil before I finished it.
I had to add a bleed line to avoid siphoning the whole bin…
I’ve been watering with clean water and feeding from a 5gal during my current run of 5 plants. My next run is 15 plants, so my water usage will go way up, I’ll feed from the 20gal again. Hope that helps.
I can post more about my whole irrigation setup if you’re interested.
Agreed. I used Fox Farm Trio for the first year thin switch to Jack’s for 6 months because of the Simplicity supposedly and the one feeding ratio for everything. Same three strains all clones from the same mother plants same soil. I had terrible issues with nitrogen problems with jacks. Had to switch up the ratio not a big deal. But the difference in quality of Bud from Jack and fox farm Trio is night and day for me. I got better results from Fox Farm. Way better. So I switched back to Fox Farm and I’ve never looked back. I use my Jack’s to water my house plants:-) just my two cents. Happy growing
I like the simplicity of Jack’s but ran into a phosphorus issue on one of my plants right as it went into flower. I contacted Jack’s and they responded that I should be using Bloom Boost for 1-2 weeks when they go into flower. Just a heads up for those who have recently switched.
Yes brother I agree my bud was much more potent using Fox farms trio then jacks 321 … I jus finished few plants using soil charge pack.com an Gaia green powdered nutrients an I also used gold leaf one step nutrient as well as my favorite fox farms trio with open n beastie n cha Ching @registereduser yea man u don’t have to u could’ve jus tweaked ratios but yea the jacks bloom booster is great but if u use for more than 1-2 weeks u will notice calmag defecnciey
Fox Farm Trio does have a lot of salts in it but as long as your pH water is going in what it should be you won’t have that many problems. And I also water every one of my plants to 10% runoff. That way I’m always flushing a little of the salt out every time I water. I hope I don’t jinx myself but I’ve only had to flush a handful of time and that was because of my pH pin being off and my water going in was out of whack. Good luck and happy growing
Ive done fox farms and jacks and to me i had way less issues with jacks. And most importantly, the main reason i switched…u never have to flush. End of the day they will both work well if used correctly.
@Budsmz so what you going do with switching??? Are you going to switch to jacks or stick with fox farms??? I personally like fox farms but I got this finishing powder for jacks so I wanna try it plus crystal came out very nice after a good month of curing…
i switched to Jacks, in my opinion it did better than Fox Farms on my grow and its pretty simple. ive done 2 grows with it. all i needed was a digital scale to measure it out. i bought the small bags to give it a try, when i run out i will buy the big bags. i say give it a try
So I’m using jacks 20-20-20 for veg and jacks 10-30-20 for bloom… I use 5 gallon reservoirs and a blumat system… There’s no moving parts… I never have any runoff… The plants pretty much feed themselves… AND I don’t have any fungus gnats
As per directions, I mix 1 tsp per gallon of water… This is half strength, but recommended for a constant feed diet… I usually put in a tsp of ascorbic acid or a tsp of monosilicic acid, additionally per 5 gallons… It drops the pH to 6.2… Don’t really see any ph drift to speak of…
I haven’t had any issues with burning the plants with the 20-20-20 or 10-30-20 combos… I did recently try jacks 5-50-18 on a Durban Thai X C99 clone… That definitely burned her tips a bit, but all in all she still doing alright… Buds are pretty solid… She’s supposed to be done in a couple weeks but I don’t know… My grow lights really mess with my camera… Can’t seem to take a decent photo anymore
The Jacks has really made my life a lot easier in addition to the blumat… I might be able to get better results with the 3-2-1 system… I haven’t tried it yet… I read that what I use distributes more evenly in the water… So I’ve stuck with it… It’s simple stupid… I got tired of making tea and hand watering AND those f*****g fungus gnats… None of that is a part of my life anymore… I fill each reservoir about once a week when theyre in full bloom… Add 5 tsp’s fert 1 tsp vit c and I’m done… The price is right as well
It’s funny, I had found blumat before I started my first grow… Never saw any fungus gnats at first… I was new and playing mad scientist with organic ferts though… I was initially putting dirty aquarium water in the reservoirs and using dry amendments in the soil… I decided to switch to doing teas and hand watering… I was new… I wanted to do more… You know, will it to be bigger, nurture it, take a more active role… So I quit using the blumat system and started hand watering with a spray bottle… I had an explosion of fungus gnats… I continued hand watering for a while… Tried killing or controlling the gnats a variety of ways… Hydrogen peroxide, couple bug sprays, neem seed meal, neem seed oil… I even tried putting 3"s of aquarium gravel on top of the soil… None of it worked… I just happened to be on Amazon one day and came across the Jacks 20-20-20 and in short order the 10-30-20… I decided to try it because I was tired of making teas and hand watering… I had only purchased 1 blumat system at this point… I tried the 20-20-20 with the blumat system… The plants never looked anything but happy… So I bought several of the blumat setups… Should have just got a larger set, but they are pricey-ish… At least it feels that way… But there’s no moving parts to break… It was super easy and the fungus gnats went bye bye as well… I can only assume it’s because there’s almost no surface water on the soil… It’s dripped in and never more than the plants consume, so theres no runoff for them to hang out in either… I could conceivably try dry amendments again without fear of fungus gnats, but the Jacks is doing an outstanding job
i believe when i got the gnats that it was already in the soil i bought. after that grow and getting rid of them, i got it from another nursery and haven’t had an issue, knock on wood lol
