Trying to soak my coco bricks but when I mixed jacks the ppm came out to nearly 700 for a gallon of mix sooo I’m kinda wondering what my next steps are? Should I remix everything because I messed up somewhere or just use one gal of the jacks and 2 gal ro water to soak the coco bricks
Sorry if I sound stupid or not really sure what I’m talking about this is my first grow and I’m trying to be extra cautious of everything
Use the full strength jacks you mixed, don’t dilute it. Your water source TDS must be fairly low and that’s a good thing. My final Jacks PPMs are 800ish after mixing using 4 grams of part A and 2 grams of part B…no Epsom salt
Personally I just soak my coco in water with calmag. After that I rinse it with plain tap water, which has some natural calcium too, and let it set for a couple days. Then when I plant or transplant I water with normal Jacks mix and go from there. I have not had any issues with this system. No calcium deficiencies and a nice trouble free grow.
Buffering this way is easy as long as you start early and don’t wait till a day before you need the coco for plants.
You must be using RO or distilled water. I have only grown in coco, hydrated with full strength Jacks. If memory serves correctly, 2 gallons per brick of canna coco. I then feed using full strength Jacks, every single time.
Older video but I thought it was pretty good at explaining how and why to buffer your coco. I currently have two plants going. One I used the rest of some Bio Bizz “pre buffered” coco and the other I used brick coco and buffered it myself using this method. The one I buffered myself is doing excellent the other pot not so much. Lost one seedling already due to slow growth and the one that I replaced it with is currently very slow growing. Can’t say for sure if the coco is the issue but I go by if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. I’ll be buying brick coco and buffering myself from now on.
Just realized the video has a link for a competing site. If it violates forum rules feel free to remove it.
Its so easy to do I do it even it it says buffered. All you are doing is letting it take all the calcium it wants. I have let it set in the calmag infused water several days without any issues.
They key, in my opinion, is to start prepping the coco long before you actually need it. Give yourself a couple weeks to buffer and wash. You want it stabilized and that just takes time.
I’ve been running Jacks 15-5-20 for my last couple of grows and I have to say I like it. It’s a single component mixed right into your water and it dissolves well, the 3-2-1 was hard to get it fully dissolved. It’s formulated for people who grow using tap water which I would suspect is probably many of us.
This is Mephisto 24 Carat day 40ish. I’m liking the 15-5-20 and it seems the plant does also. I think buffering the coco makes a big difference this is the first time I’ve buffered the coco and it looks like the plant is much healthier. I didn’t know that unbuffered coco will strip the calcium and magnesium from the plant. Previously growing in “pre buffered” coco which may not have really been buffered as I always ran into issues of the classic cal/mag deficiency right when flower would start. She should be starting to flower shortly so we’ll see how it goes around that time, I’ll switch to a bloom booster then.
Day 56 for the 24 Carat. Creme De La Cosmos day 35. both getting Jack’s 15-5-20 the 24 carat just finished bloom boost. So far so good. I really think buffering the coco this round made a huge difference. A lot less issues through flower.
