I’m having difficulty figuring out when to harvest this bad boy. It’s only my third grow so I don’t have a ton of experience, but I feel like I’ve done adequate research. Still, I’m just not sure, mostly because I’m having a hard time seeing the trichomes. I got this little handheld microscope and honestly, the trichomes have looked milky to me for weeks. I have not yet cut off any buds for purposes of making trichome viewing easier; that will probably help but I’m hesitant to do it and risk slowing things down. Here’s some background
Unknown strain in soil
Planted the seed on 8/22
Flipped 9/8 (shortish veg)
First noticed pistils 9/17
So from flip, I’m at about week 9. I don’t notice any leaf yellowing/senescense. Do you ever harvest before signs of senescence? I’d like to do about 10 days of flushing - think it’s time to stop feeding? I know not having pictures of the trichomes makes it a difficult call for you all to make but I just can’t get a good shot.
My advice would be this. Give her at least another week. In the meantime get you a wireless microscope on Amazon fornabout 20 bucks or so. Then youll be able to fine tune your harvest and not cut too early.
I bought three with the intention of keeping the one I liked best. All 3 seem very difficult to use without cutting the bud from the plant and putting it in a flat service. I know different parts of the plant can be different, so what’s the right amount of cutting to do? I surely don’t want to chop off my best tops just to check them out, but if I get the smaller ones are they a good indication of what the rest of the plant is like?
So I bit the bullet and cut off a bud so I could get a decent look under the microscope. Based on the trichomes, I think I’m on the early side of in the window. I really wanted like 10 days of flush and tbh that might be pushing it. My question now is about the lights off period. Do you go 72 hours of darkness before chop? Are you watering for those three days or no?
