Is it normal to lose soil aroujd the roots when transplanting?

My seedling is a little under 3 weeks old, i decided to transplant it to a 3 gallon fabric pot and giving my autoflower 7 ml of phd water no nutrients. Seems to be steady but only around an hohr after. Not a whole lot of soil came off of the roots but i definitely lost some. Just kinda confused if i got bad genetics or im just doikg everythikg wrong besides being small they are healthy looking.

If the soil is dry and the plant has a small root system you will lose some soil when you remove the plant from the pot.

If the soil is moist and the plant has a good root system, you shouldn’t lose much if any soil.

Generally you don’t repot a plant until you start to see roots appearing at the bottom of the pot near the drain holes.

I like to water the plants about an hour before repotting them so they have moisture before being repotted. You should also give them a good drink after repotting to wash the soil in and around the roots and to remove large air pockets.

Is it normal to lose soil when transplanting autoflowers? I transplanted a little under 3 weeks and i didnt lose all the soil but i definitely list a bit of it. Only been an hour so ill see how the plant does gave it a bit of time to dry out then did 7 ml of water. Seem fine so far but hard to tell. But more i look definitely signs of stress

It’s probably just settling

Yeah thats what i mean. Idk if it means i transplanted to early or not. Stressikg cause part of me thinks i did it wrong and messed up my whole post so frustrated

Your seedling seems normal and healthy to me. Just give it some time.

No stem stretch, no burnt tips, not too wet. Not too small. You are Goldilocks golden my friend.

It doesn’t matter if you do lose some soil when transplanting. The main thing to be concerned about when repotting plants is to try not to damage the roots. Plants with well developed root systems can tolerate a small amount of damage to their roots but young plants can suffer badly if the roots get broken, cut or crushed. If you are careful when repotting the plant should be fine.

To remove a plant from a pot, put your fingers over the base of the plant in a V shape (like Spock from Star Trek saying high in Vulcan). Rest your hand and fingers on the soil. then tip the plant upside down and gently tap the pot a couple of times and lift it up and remove the pot. It should slide off the roots quite easily. Then with your free hand (the one used to remove the pot) you put that on the root ball to help hold it together. Then put the plant’s root ball in the new potting that has potting mix in it. Make sure it’s level and add more potting mix around the root ball. Fill the pot with potting mix and give the pot a gentle shake and tap on the ground to compact and level the soil. Then give it a drink. Let it drain and put it wherever it’s going to go.
