Interior color of growbox with LED lights

what color should the inside of the grow box be. Some say ...reflective (tinfoil) some say...white paint. I am using LED lights that are blue, orange, ect. Very little white. Out of 500 only around 40 are white. Lamp advertized as growlight.

Mylar and Panda plastic are the best materials to add to a wall. If you don’t want to spring for these highly reflective materials, then use flat white paint. If memory severs; It is 10-20 % more reflective than tin foil. Less hassle and easy to clean. Good Luck.

Perhaps you could post your efforts in our grow journal section.

Flat white paint is pretty much as reflective as mylar. Tinfoil is not really that good for light reflection. When using HID lights, flat white paint is better as very smooth shiny reflective surfaces could kinda act like a magnifying glass and you’ll get hot spots and light burn on your plants.

Yes revive this…I searched and this is all I found as far as reflective material studies. I seriously request a full discussion

There was one somewhere. I’ve inferred from what I remember reading the following

Best = Mylar - most reflective, evenly textured with small imprints to reduce “hot spots” - more on that when I get to tin foil.

Better = white painted walls, or white panda film or the like. This is because it’s flat, uniform surface. Painted walls will be a bit less reflective than the panda film, but not enough to make a dramatic difference.

Fine in a pinch = tinfoil. This is because while when fresh and carefully applied, tinfoil is uniform and highly reflective, it kinks easily and quickly creates an uneven series of mirror-like surfaces that reflect the light and heat of your grow lights. It can lead to oddly placed hot spots or leaf burn on your plants.

I know some folks around here use those sheets of foam insulation with the reflective surface on one side as their way of creating a reflective grow space. I’m not sure whether to put that below “Best” and above “Better” or below “better” and above “fine.”

Let’s phone a friend. @dbrn32 @Nicky @Hellraiser maybe @Bulldognuts and @AfgVet

I’ve been wondering if my tin foil is a bad idea and was going to get some mylar camping blankets for the front of my tent/shower , was thinking those blanket things would be good for the walls …??

This was where I was leaning … Mylar heat blanket.but does anyone have a manufacture model /maker preference … That is the question .;> Not digging the foil…

The survival blankets is where I was going …Since I’m in a shower I could hopefully use it as walls and shower curtain
'cause the front of my eco build is open . I feel and see the light reflection at the front of my yellow shower is notta…

Those may present the same problem as tinfoil since it isn’t specifically manufactured with surface area for light reflection in mind. You’d be better off looking for sheets of Mylar specific to growing, or panda film. I ended up using the white side of a bug sheet of panda film to lightproof the glass panels on my grow room door.
