So Doc what did you do today? Well…was having a huge heat issue this morning but finally figured out a solution, I was venting my tent into the room so it was just heating up the room and drawing that warm air right back into the tent. Maybe I will shut the vent in the room, might help too. Not sure of a perm solution yet but I’ll figure something out. Gonna put it in my thought hopper and let my brain figure it out during it’s off time. Kinda dry where I live so looking at humidity control and humidifier. Also thinking about pulling the driver from the light outta the tent all together. It is the only part that gets warm in the tent and my usual house temps are 74 so I think if the driver was outside temps would be much easier to moderate. It’s only gonna get warmer too so soon enough it will have to come out anyways.
Misting away, keeping the cups there but last couple trips to the tent nothing on the inside of them anymore. Maybe I vented too much I dunno. The girls continuing to grow, they seem happy so I’m gonna be happy too. Giving them gentle flicks to create micro abrasions, basically like simulated wind blowing.
The one in the red cup was really stuck inside that seed. Got it off finally with some help from me…a lot of help from me. She fell over, then picked herself up and spread her leaves. I used a metal spring I had around to bolster her up. Seems to have worked, and is wide enough to hold her up till she can and still get pulled off later if she gets transferred.
here are my young lady’s this morning, day 5.
Soil condition- Dryer then I like but wtf do I know it’s my first grow. Under the cup so about a 2 inches away from seedling is moist, outside the perimeter, is fairly dry, none sticks to fingers unless you go down past the 1st inch where it is cooler and still moist from the 1 cup of water added to soil 2 days ago.( only added to outside humidity dome perimeter and a drop at a time, the goal was to moisten soil not water plant and it seems to have worked)
Environment- a bit unstable tbh but always within parameters just on the high end. Temps- Temps fluctuate between 73-78f depending on time of day (harder at night to cool room down without freezing myself out of comfort. 72 is cold here in the desert. RH- RH fluctuates between 35-55% I believe the domes are keeping it closer to 70% around the plant but I would like to take the domes away at some point and feel it will be unlikely to be able to maintain much more then 35% once a circulation fan begins blowing inside the tent. I tested this a couple days ago by turning the fan on and the domes were dry inside so below 70% Rh inside and the Rh in tent was at 35% so I am hunting a humidifier.
Light- remains at 50 % and 18 inches away.
Growth- Upward growth has slowed they don’t seem to be light starved and have widened their leaves a lil.
Overall- continuing misting regiment as described in previous posts.
Thanks for everyone’s continued help.
You are probably good to ditch tge domes now. That’s about where I have stopped with domes. In my current grow, I was having an issue with my seedlings not doing anything. Took them out of my tent and put them in a different location with a dome and a small blurple grow light I got forever ago. Next day it started bouncing back. Day or 2 after, shell was mostly off, I took off the dome, put her back in the tent, and that’s where she’s been since, growing her butt off!
I would say ditch it.
Also I share the idea as a few others do that humidity is a lot less if an issue than you think… My RH is around 40 to 50 and I have no issues whatsoever. Also, if you share the space with the tent, as is evident when you say you’d freeze yourself out to keep it at optimal temp, you would be living in a high humidity environment…
Personally I would say high humidity with germination then just let her ride without the dome after that first set of leaves come out.
I’m from the desert. 72 degrees is without the sun on u is cold. It’s as dry as a popcorn fart here. Except during the monsoon season, then it’s like air you can wear outside, even that though is only 40-50% Rh. Currently, today there is 17% Rh outside. And it is in the low 60’s. Can you tell me at what humidity level is too low? I’m glad to hear you say it isn’t as important as I’ve been thinking. How do my seedlings look?
You want to make sure they aren’t starved for fresh air by closing that vent though. Let’s say you have your plant in a room with no incoming fresh air and your fan is dumping the exhaust into the same room… Not good!
I have my tent in a lage closet inside my bathroom. Literally the only place I could put it lol. Anyways, there is a vent in the bathroom and bedroom, I leave the bathroom door open, and have one of those air filter fans pulling air from the bedroom, and pulling in air from the bathroom while purifying it, dumping it in front if the intake of the tent. Then the exhaust comes right out the top and dumps into the bathroom…
lol. Dumps… in the bathroom. Heh.
This is NOT ideal, just giving you an idea of something I came up with to try to keep things as fresh as possible in my specific case. Obviously in my case keeping a clean bathroom is the most important though lol. An ideal setup would be dumping exhaust outside…
As far as what RH is “mininal” I’m not sure if I’m qualified to answer that one, but I would start worrying if RH gets below 30, 35 maybe?
Just looked, Hellraisers latest grow he said “At this point there are NO fans running inside the tent and temperature is stable at 75F, humidity is a bit low at 35RH as I have my humidifiers off since I have a plant (Cherry Bubba Kush) in the last couple weeks of flowering in the room as well. Won’t be a problem as I’m used to growing in low humidity.”
I would shoot for 40ish if I were you maybe? Again, I am still new myself, and have no idea what it’s like in your environment, but your first post said it was 45 rh. That would be perfect.
morning of day 6/7 came up late Sunday night last week. Counting Mon as day 1 today is day 6. What a week! Now that we are through it I am feeling a lot better. Thought I was confident going in, turns out, shouldn’t have been. The next grow will start out in cups that’s for sure. It seams risky when you are reading to do transfers with auto’s but that’s not the case if you do it properly as has been demonstrated to me. I realized that I live in the desert and that is gonna require addtl. moisture when compared to other environments. Because of this I have upped my misting to 3 times a day. Now b4 breakfast after lunch and b4 bed. The 2nd spray of the day is solely to re-moisturize the top 1/4 inch of soil that is working hard to help maintain a reasonable humidity. lvl inside my tent. 17% outside, 25% inside and 35-55% in my tent. I watered 1 1/2 cup of water to each pot day b4 yesterday. I worry a lil I may have overwatered but the lady’s do not seem to have minded, no ones leaves are floppy or droopy at all infact they look to be standing tall and at attn so I will continue with my method for another week, unless signs of stress appear. There is now a small non oscillating clip on desk fan gently blowing the seedlings around providing stimulation to the stems to grow fatter. I’ve only used and will continue to use distilled water. Tomorrow I will begin a 20/4 light cycle which will stay until completion of the grow. This part of the year leaves it pretty chilly here around 2 or 3 in the morning so I think I’ll have the light turn back on for the day around that time, so dark around midnight. Thanks everyone for all the help, I’m sure I’ll be needing more.
Any input always appreciated
I don’t know about your specific scenario but most people will say not to mist your plants. 1) The beaded up water acts like a magnifying glass, and can magnify your light onto the plant surface, causing it to burn. Thing of burning bugs using the sun and a magnifying glass… This is true for really anything you spray on your plants. 2) Even easier to overwater and causing damping off (drooping)
Also, idk if there is a point in a 20/4 light cycle… Seems like wasted electricity to me… But not sure on that one… I just do the ‘standard’ 16/8 for veg and 12/12 for flower…
everyone is doing very well after their first night sleep. The one in the red cup is pretty far behind the others. She was stuck inside of her helmet for two days, it still didn’t come off but I was finally able to finesse it off her (at that point she was gonna die if I didn’t do it for her so I was a bit more brazen.) she has also been knocked over 2 or 3 times and that was after I put in the crutch for her to stand against. She has started to recover from all that and grow. I have a void in the center of my tent floor where the round pots don’t touch so I put in a riser bellow her and got her level with her sisters and in the sunniest spot of their house I figure she will be the first to go in a culling so I owed it to her to give her a fighting chance. No new issues, looking into some environmental automation cuz I can’t sit in front of my greenhouse weather station 24 hrs a day. I’m pretty sure a computer would be better at maintaining it then I as well. Anyone ever hear of the NIWA grow hub?
Hm… Shouldnt need to get too crazy with automation… I mean, if you have the money and patience to set it all up, go for it. But I think it is a better idea to figure out WHY you have to watch it all the time instead of throwing money at it. If you wanna throw money around, throw some my way heh!
But for real, what is going on that you have to keep watching it? Are you just worried or are you actually doing stuff to it throughout the day? Are you talking about stuff like AC and Humidifier?
Eh…I have constant fluctuations in temp/humidity all day…it is what it is. I’d invest a bunch into getting it to be constant but I’ve decided to just hold tight. As for automation, I’m only talking environment. I wanna have humidity, heat, cooling, dehumidifying and lights all on automation. Watering and feeding should always be on the gardener to maintain…feels kinda like you would be removing the “soul” of your grow if you automate the TLC. I’m glad plants are so forgiving. I’m already making notes for my next grow and just continuing on towards harvest day. Girls look great and almost time for em to go to bed. Updates soon.
