That’s how I fill mine some will leave the soil lower so they can bury the stem if it gets too wobbly
Make sure you pre-moistened the soil and have drain holes in the cups, after placing the seed eyedropper of water around on top of the seed to make sure it’s moist (takes about 7-10 day before needing water again when cup is light

usually, the seeds that drop will float after an hour or 2 never had a issue either way
Put a rubber band around the cup to hold saran wrap on tight

I start them in clear cups so you can see the roots and know when it time for transplant then put the clear cup in a red cup to keep light away from the roots

Too many rules for flying I drive my RV across the country (not with today’s gas prices though) would love some barbecue

How Big in Ounces is this Clear Cup you refer to? Assuming 4 oz or 8 oz size?

Your are using the graduated size method for root growth?

Changing topic back to the Float which I am currently in, what is the determining factor (Cracked, Tails, Hours?) why do you put them on the wet paper towel in Zip Lock (Quart? Gallon? Sandwich?) What is your determining Factor for removing from water?

I am going to try and do it as close to your method as possible.

This problem of gettting started seems almost as bad as the PH issue I had over and over… :rofl:

I am putting it together though. Once I get these dang things started, I am going to Slay it!

Post a Pic My Ribs from Yesterday, and I dragged out the seeds for a quick pic.

Seeds have been Floating 13 hours, I did push them down with a spoon a couple times. Not sure why but I did it

I have been smoking my @ss off. Bone pulled out, did that mean I ruined the batch of ribs and should I throw them out? :smile:

I better quit posting BBQ pics before I get banned from this place.

Party cups 16-20oz both clear and red for starting seeds in the soil
Holes in the bottom of the clear cups only keep the red cup emptied of runoff water
3oz cups for seed soak Or a shot glass

Just leave in water overnight to soak they won’t have a tail at that point Don’t want to drown them
I try to make sure they stay at the bottom before placing them on paper towels
1 sheet of paper towel folded in half wet not dripping, place seed on the towel and fold over the seed then put into a baggie and close almost all the way
place in a warm dark place overnight (most times at this point it will crack or have a small tail) wait until the tail is at least 1/4" prefer 1/2" I’ve not had an issue planting with 1/4" tail after planting takes 24-48 hours to pop above the soil
Sandwich bags 1 seed per bag is how I do mine probably wouldn’t hurt to put them into the same though

Alright I think I got it. I got a seed down currently at the bottom.

Might make sure she stays down till I have them swimming at least 24 hours?

I am going to single Bag them to grow the tails as you suggest though.

Some seeds sinking some floating had me all messed up.

I also was paranoid about water logging the seeds…

Hoping to get it together from this point on the germination.

I am going straight in the Happy frog 1/4" very lightly buried, Saran wrap, Rubber Band Slit, then 37 Watt at 23 Inches waiting for sprout.

I knew my old method was flawed. I had some Fresh Seeds and not so Fresh I think kept me from learning.

School of Hard Knocks. I won’t forget the lessons though.

Keep using your finger to push them down after overnight soak if they have an air bubble in the shell they won’t sink on their own
once they stay down into paper towels they go

Not doing the paper towel method?
Just make sure when it does pop above the soil it’s not the tail up I had to flip a few coming up the wrong way

Paper towels is 100% going to be the next step to grow those tails after they come off the bottom.

It makes sense that the seed is fully wet inside once it sinks. :thinking:

There is where you probably don’t want to sit on your @ss too long and get it water logged.

I’m going to make a quick trip to the store for the clear inserts too by golly!

I am going to try to position the swimmer proper way up in the dirt with tweezers. I read that on the Hellraiser blog. I took note of that too.

I like you sharing that you watch the seed break out and just flipping if it was @ss backwards. At that stage you are dealing with the tap root.

I am not sure if the mat is necessary, but temp seems good, making bag 1/2 way zipped sweat. 75F

Inside temp is not much different at 73F.

I had three that sank and stayed at bottom. Got my eye on the 4th floater.

Hell no lol there’s stoners but most of the people here are against it, our town will never have a dispensery which is good for me, legal for me to grow without a medical card. Which I cant get, i once got caught with a amount of weed they called it sales. So if i live 25 miles from a dispensery i can’t grow cuz i won’t break the law. But I am on the down low, i hope nobody smells cuz most of them don’t understand my friend. I go through a lot of air freshener! Especially when I am flowering :smiley:

I’m Just hoping that Johnny Law got more to do that f*ck with old man with bad hands. I can’t afford a new front door. :innocent:

I run a couple Honeywell filter machines in addition to the 4" infinity (Love that) that I paid a couple hundred bucks for Honeywells.

I am nose dead, but when they Flower, OMG I can Smell when the terps are burning my eyes.

About the Law hassling you…Without going too much into details, did the law get you driving in your car, noticed smell and searched?

Last coupe questions for this Get Rich Quick Training on Germination weed seeds.

After 48 hr in paper towel and baggie I should see 1/2 tails, pre-wet the cup of 16 oz FF HF Dirt and place the 1/2" tail carefully down add Dirt Light watering direct on top of seed with eye dropper, cover with saran wrap, 1" slit, rubber band. The Clear Cup has weep holes in bottom, then Place Clear cup inside the Red Cup to hide roots.

Question: Do you ever water ever with eye dropper again, and again on top of seed or do you just let Mother Nature take charge and keep hands off until the cup needs watering (Gets Light) again?

Question: When the Plant is now up and around 1" tall are you Watering 16 oz Cup to Run Off?

At this point of the plant standing on its own I when the cup needs watering I will have HLG 135 V2 at 37 Watt and 23 Inches. Should I be a bit higher 26"?

Question: General Tips on Lighting when small?

All correct for planting

Just that one time so it reaches to grow roots after that

Yes I do, then when the cup is light use 2 fingers holding the cup on it’s edge sway side to side you can feel the weight if it still has moisture Try it on your new soil cups before and after watering
should take a week to ten days before needing first watering after starting seed depending on your climate

26" sounds good for height then watch to see if it’s stretching to much then you can lower as needed to keep nodes tighter

Well my friend, i split with the wife and took 20 lbs of weed to Cal, I was minding my own business when a CHP pulled me over for not having a gas cap on my car!!! I was drunk so they tore into my car. Hotel California here I come. Oh well its all good tho, learned a big lesson. I don’t push the limits anymore :smiley:

3/22/2022 UPDATE: ( ILGM Z-Kittle Auto Seeds Have Replaced Gold Leaf)

Wasted 8 Days, but that what happens when you don’t know what you are doing. I stayed stone the whole time so it was fun.

Just to Re-Hash. After the Funeral of the Gold Leaf, I completed the overnight sinking of the Replacement seeds (ILGM AUTO- Z-Kittle)

All had tails, Maybe ¾ to ¼” but they all went in the dirt using Spanky’s method.

Going to grow all 4 in cup to 6 High, snip at 4 + nub, take the best 2 Plants and Go to the Show with them. The other 2 I’ll give to a friend before they start smelling.

I live in a small town so shopping is limited and for $4 a Gallon I am not chasing Clear cups anymore than I did. I will find them for Grow 5 on amazon and make sure that they the same design as the Red Outer Sleeve, Light Blocker cup. (I Like this idea Spanks!)

Some seeds sinking some floating had me all Messed up. I kept thinking don’t water log. I also was keeping the jiffy plug too wet.

So I know I can’t put any Tap Water Poison on these PH Sensitive, Hearty Plants.

I will go with RO water and CAL MAG for the next for seeable future. RO is about 47 PPM and adding CAL Mag to Combat deficiency during the grow bring PPM up above 100 so I know I am dialed in to 6.5 – 6.8 PH input.

I am planning on a Walt Garrison Pinch of Epsom Salts in addition to the Cal mag most of the way for @Beardless and @Caligurl just for giggles.

Again thanks Spanks for sharing your germination method! No more wasting seeds for me. You are like that Caesar Guy with the Pit Bulls, but with Weed. Let me Knight you the “Weed Whisperer”

I got a 1980s Highway story, when I was crazy, but this one ended happily ever after for my lucky ass! This is not going to be as good as the @MeEasy Duck Marshland Grow and the Binoculars, Game Warden, but close… :laughing:

I won’t go into Full details, but similar to @dennis62, but I had car full of Smoke. We drove up over a Hill onto a Law Enforcement Manhunt on the Highway where the traffic had to stop. This was a two lane deserted country road in the middle of no where. Multiple Officers outside their cars talking to each car as they are chit chatting with each driver. I think I immediately shxt in my pants when I realized what was happening.

Only time in my Life had I ever encountered such a thing. My car we could have been filming a Cheech and Chong movie joint lit. I know we are F-d. No Way Out as we are driving up we are 4th in line on our side of the 2 lane Highway. My Friend ate the joint, but I am thinking why bother?

The Other side of highway there is 5 or 6 cars waiting to see those officers. …Talk about Luck the guy in front of me must have been the guy they was looking for because he whipped a U-Turn and Laid Rubber Hauling Ass. Two cops 6 feet from my tightly sealed car window. Both cops kind of shocked looking at the car hauling ass off the other way, and they Both Fixated on that car… Meanwhile I am thinking Please!!! Next thing all 4 sprinting to their Patrol State Highway Cars and they started chasing the guy that did the U Turn.

I still go into Cold Sweat thinking about the what could have been. Real shxt show I know for Sure. I am glad I did not find out the outcome.

Story time over. Back to getting stoned.
