I have not put the seedlings into the net pots yet but I moved the light down to 1 foot above the buckets yesterday to see the difference in temps. I had been holding at a solid 77.5 with the light at the top but it is now up in the 90’s at the top of the buckets. I covered the buckets with reflect blanket and added a fan…still to hot. Do I move the light higher because then it won’t be the recommended 13 to 15 inches above the plant or do I keep working on a solution to cool ?
What kind of light are you using? You’ll want to avoid 90 degree ambient temps. Also, are you monitoring your res temps? That should be around 68f
Thanks for answering yes the res temps seem to be staying down with the reflective blanket cover . I am using a HID light but it only has a reflector no fan 600w . I have a 6 inch extractor fan on high and a fan inside near the open flap on the bottom of the tent 2x4. To keep a cross draft of fresh cooler air. As long as I kept the light about 4 feet above the buckets the temp was great at 77 and at 68 no lights but when I dropped the light in anticipation of putting in the seedlings the temp jumped up and seems lime I can’t get it to come down at the top of the bucket . I expected some elevation at the top of the bucket with the lower light but not this much . not sure what to do to get it cooled down?
I wouldn’t expect you would run a 600 watt hps that close. It’s too much light for small plant plant most importantly. But you’ll run it closer when flowering and temps could certainly pose an issue.
I run 2 600w mh and hps in a 4x4x6 grow tent but i have through tube reflector hood with a 440cfm 6in fan and im staying at 78 to 88 degrees depending on how hot or how cold it is outside and you should have a dimmable ballasts see what you temperature are on 50% dimmed might get by till you get a cool hood reflector but you will have some big rock hard buds in that tent with that light for sure. Hope this helps you
Thank you! I am hoping for a sizable collection of buds!! Lol…if I can just get it all dialed in! I think turning down my ballast could be part of the answer! Tha is again I will try and see what happens !
Here’s a picture of mine might give you a idea or something but you will definitely need a cool hood reflector
Awesome !! Yes a cool hood reflector is in my near future !!
36 inches above your canopy with your hid at full power should be just fine… move it up to 36 inches and monitor your readings… it won’t be ideal , but it should get you by… you could also add frozen water bottles to your buckets if needed…
But you definitely want to look into a air cooled hood…
this does not sound like enough intake air,
do u have more flaps that u can open at the bottom.?
u also need a fan blowing across the tops of the plants, this moves some of the HID heat.!
maybe open more vents and raise the ‘intake fan’ up to blow between the light and buckets…???
if u can get it down to 18" above the tops u will get tight buds.!
