Hello follow growers. Still in my first batch and plants are tall. I grow in my
Closet and have bottom stems trimmed to prevent undergrowth issues. Heres a pic of what my set up looks like. What you dont see in the picture is 2 dehumidifiers that should each cover 1200 cubic feet, a floor fan on the floor to go over the soil and a fan that goes over the top plants. I have a Vent in the closet for fresh air and a carbon filter attached to a duct thats attached to an additional exhaust fan that goes out the closet. Its always cold air. I also have a thermometer of course. Temps are always on average 77 which is great. But RH has been spotty. RH could be as low as 50 sometimes and sometimes rh can be as high as 75 which is definitely a concern. Everything but my light runs 24/7 and i empty my dehumidifiers daily as they collect plenty of water. Heres the crazy thing, today i moved the thermometer to the biggest room in my house, RH only went down by 1. I feel the RH gets low when its low outside and high when its humid outside.
Does anyone have any ideas how i can get my closet more dry? Nothing feels stagnant in there at all and no leaves under are wet. My dehumidifiers are pulling water but according to my thermometer they make no difference. Even if i turn the dehumidifiers off, rh is the same. Any ideas? Or any one that has a closet or grow tent they use and recommend a dehumidifier that makes a huge difference?
Hello again Mr Marsh, if the rh is high outside your room your only option is a dehumidifier. Might have to get a bigger unit. There are some hacks out there I’ve heard about but haven’t tried. Two buckets stacked top one with holes and full of rock salt sucks the moisture out of the air and will fill the bottom bucket. Again I’ve never tried it and don’t know how well it works but it’s supposed to help. There’s more hacks that’s just the one that popped into my head first
Looks good in there 4sure, another thing I know helps is defoliation just get all the biggest fan leaves out and anything from the first 1/3 or more from the bottom doesn’t have to be as drastic as I do em but less leaves less moisture. Also more airflow the better with your rh that high mold is a concern
Ok. Are you saying as my plants grow still trim the bottom (1/3) of plant? Kind of like your picture? I think ill be doing that. The tall ones are just starting to flower so itll be just in time as they stretch. Also, i was thinking about buying this 1500 sq dehumidifier and putting this right outside the closet. Should bring down RH significantly outside the closet right? What do you think? Not sure how big your room is so I’m not sure how much it will help. I do know plants make moisture or I should say exhales moisture so you need a dehumidifier big enough to compensate for it because without the plants the machine will do 1500²" . I live in the desert so I don’t have as much problem as you because the rh outside right now is 14%. I don’t have the experience with it to give you good advice
Way smaller than 1500 lol. Probably no bigger than 300 sq feet. I dont know if a bigger dehumidifier will help even though what i already have should cover more than the closet. I guess its worth a shot to try it. But still lol
Not having to deal with the problem as much I’ve never looked but I’ll bet if you Google it someone has made a recommendation chart for whatever size growroom
Do you have constant airflow through the grow space? You only need to exchange the air once every 2 minutes or so and might be simply running an A/C Infinity fan/controller to manage heat, along with dehumidifiers inside, should bring it down. That or condition the air coming in with your dehumidifiers running in a plenum: but that takes more space/engineering.
Yes i have my AC fan running 24/7 and along with my two oscillation fans and 2 dehumidifiers. Since humidity is the same outside the room, i might try another and bigger dehumidifier. I dont know what else to do
Cool dry winter air drops it and keeps it in check. I exhaust mine outside though. Cold air is for when it gets a bit to warm in the tent. Constant qirflow/movement and then obviously dropping room rh the closet is in. That should help. If you want say 50% rh drop room rh to 40%. You may have to experiment to get it right.
Your best bet will be to get the room your drawing air from to a lower rh. I grow in a basement so summer months are tough. I run 2 dehumidifier and I center my intake duct over one of them to draw that dried air right in
How big are your dehumidifiers? I thought about putting one in the bathroom next to the closet but the thing is my main airflow is the vent to my central hvac system in my house.
Ok. It seems the same size i have. Idk if getting a dehumidifier that takes up most of my house will help because my main airflow is from my central hvac vent in the closet. What do you think?
If your air intake is coming in from the hvac then controlling your humidity is going to be tough since your drawing air from all over the house. Do the best you can with the dehu in the room maybe raise the temp a bit to help bring it down. I’d just focus lots of air movement through the plants. I’ve had to go thru flowering with RH in the upper 60’s and did just fine. Silica also helps plants fight off any mold infections .
The maximum amount of water vapor that can be in the air depends on the air temperature. Warmer air can hold more water vapor within it. That’s why the muggiest days usually happen at the height of summer heat. But as the temperature goes down, the air can hold less vapor and some of it turns into liquid water. Sometimes just raising the temp a little bit if you can afford too can hrlp bring it down. Just don’t get to high.
