Humidity and odor control. Help!

Growing one plant. Hydro. New grower. Sour diesel flowering after 8 weeks. Doing very well. Here are the 2 questions.

Wife not happy with odor. Carbon filter does not seem to be doing the job as well as I had hoped. So I directed the hose back into the tent so air is basically recirculating inside the tent. Seems to have reduced the odor significantly but has also increased the humidity. First question. Any problems with recirculating the air inside the tent. Plant seems to be thriving. Second question. It is flowering and the humidity is around 75% and temp around 70. Is any of this a problem. Seems like humidity will be high in a hydro enviro. Small tent 2x2. Any and suggestions appreciated. Have no grow experience but seem to be headed in the right direction so far. Thanks in advance.

The issue will come from the humidity. At those levels your buds will retain too much moisture, and will be prone to mold. Any chance you can exhaust to outside? Is so, you can run your exhaust into a trash can filled with charcoal briquettes, then your odor should be minimal.

If you use the match light type charcoal, the odor will be ultra masked

I’m kidding, that’s a terrible suggestion on my part :joy:

If your current carbon filter is not working well and you have the extra funds, I would get a new filter. I haven’t ever had any issues with odor using a carbon filter unless the filter itself was defective.

I would also try to get temps up to at least 78 degrees.

Definitely don’t direct the air back into the tent, you need to be cycling out the air and bringing in fresh air. What kind of filter are you using? Reason I ask is that, I don’t have odor issues in my tent area, so I am wondering maybe if it’s just a faulty filter, possibly a cheaply made one. Do you have pictures to show if your set up? With that said, you might always have some odor from your cannabis that is vented into the area.

Hello @Newguy999

What type and size is your tent exhaust and filter?

Pics?

When the exhaust is in its original configuration… Without it going back into itself… Do the walls of the tent suck in a bit?

Once we get that right… We’ll tackle the stable environment for flowering… VPD! how many weeks of flower are they in now?

I would suggest you exhaust tent to the outside. I do not use a “lung room”. I pull air in from the outside. I am using a HEPA air purifier with UVC to scrub the room where tent is located.

Do you have a dehumidifier? I have to change my carbon filter regularly.

High rh will hamper filters ability to operate properly. If you can get rh into ideal range is usually best for them. Also check for leaks around flanges and such as even mediocre filters usually do a pretty good job of hiding scent.

Recycling air usually drops co2 numbers which isn’t ideal for plant development, but a small proce to pay if wifey is happy.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Have now taken vent hose out of the tent and back into the closet. Tent is pretty tight but seems to me I need to make sure fresh air can get in. Not a lot of circulation in the closet when door is closed. I have added a few pics of filter and tent and air numbers

I do have a de humidifier in the larger room and will add the air purifier to the mix. Don’t have the option to vent outside. Have added a warming light which should get temps above the 70 degree mark and humidity dropped once I removed the hose. Now down around 70. As for the vpd discussion I am clueless but you can see the levels in the pic included. Plant continues to thrive. That baby can suck up some water. Thanks again to all. Still working on bringing it all together. As they say…,Happy wife. Happy life.

If you can exhaust to attic and pull from your room would do the trick.
If you can’t take the door off the hinge then purchase a cheap door at Home Depot and install a a/c return vent near the bottom of the door to pull in fresh air. If you can’t vent to attic then place exhaust vent near top of door to exhaust tent.

Then use merv13 carbon filter on the exhaust vent.

Stupid me. I don’t have a carbon filter on the setup. Problem solved.
