@KoolHandLuke I was given the advice of 10 mL of water and used a kids medicine syringe to administer it. Worked great on mine. You can cut a bottle in half for a dome as well if that helps with the height. Or you can lower your light a bit to prevent the stretch. Looking good so far!
@Vance420 good idea on the dome, I haven’t watered at all since planting .It’s so humid here I’m going to wait till they tell me too
Food Grade DE is essentially just dust across ur soil. Dont want to make a thick coat of it, cuz it clumps when watering. Its mostly for pest prevention tho. Are you indoors? If so sticky pads would be better at this point. Pests shouldnt be an issue and the pads will let u know when they are.
Tagging along as well. Hope u dont mind if i lurk n eat my popcorn over here
@PurpNGold74 I was talking to a farmer and he was saying ,he adds it to cut his needed water down (hold water better than peat moss). But he was smoking weed LOL. I will not use it ,if it’s only good for bug prevention. Oh @PurpNGold74 Please tag along.
Thanks. Im here and watching.
And u want to retain moisture? I think most try to aerate the soil so it dries a bit quicker. Perlite, vermiculite, peat etc do that. The DE is just for cutting up bug eggs n babies like ur a insect Hannibal
@KoolHandLuke I had really good humidity for seedlings and veg as well. It was 50-55% with no effort. I tried doing bottles and baggies and the girls always looked overwatered so I eventually just let them go naked and they did just fine.
Seedling Tray was a big waste of money .Two days and they are already hitting the top of the dome. Is it too early to transplant them to something bigger? My lights are at 18"
@PurpNGold74 about to go take the top off right now. Thank you
They are praying to the light god! You are doing perfect so far. Just be a bit less heavy on the moisture and you will rock this!
No dome! They are happy, if it aint broke dont fix it!
I have a giant dome over my plants and the whole upper part is open all the time! So is the lower part! Root only takes a few days to form, after that they can breathe the air and drink below.
@Cannabian I haven’t watered them yet . That is moisture from the initial planting. They have only been above ground for 2 days and they have already out grown their seeding tray…
Nice! I have had seedlings go a week before seing water. Kinda depends a bit on the medium and the RH of the environment. It is important to remember that cannabis doesnt really like wet feet in a medium or soil. It isnt really a jungle plant. That said, there are plants that do grow on the equator, generally they time the growing there to miss the wet season. Monsoons are not ideal for cannabis.
The image of those seedlings in the 2 inch seedling nursery tray can stay in there until the root is poking out the bottom. I would let them grow until the 3rd set of true leaves start to pop out, yes thats right the 5 fingered ones. As soon as you see them start to emerge thats about when the roots are totally filling thise squares. Then when they pop out the rootball stays totally intact. Its called a plug. Ive tried transplanting early like those, only to have half the soil fall off and root dangle all over the place. Less stressfull to rootbound the seedling a tad.
@Cannabian I was about to go out and get some cups for transplant.Thank you for stopping me. I will try to stay out of my girls way.
No worries, once you transplant, try to only water in a circle around the plug. Use maybe 10ml at first and as the plant sets root double that amount on the next watering and move the circle out another inch. Keep making the circle wider and wider and increase the watering amount. Once you get near the edge of the pot start to water deep. The idea is to get a wide root mat at first to increase water and nutrient uptake without making the plant stand in mud. Once the root is hitting the side of the pot it has nowhere to go but down because it has consumed the upper material. The plant becomes rootbound when it has nowhere left to expand its root. Shortly after that, you will find issues popping up, so keep potting up during the veg stage and I would shoot for a root bound plant half way through flowering. So a good rule of thumb is the final transplant, if you are gonna do more than 1, should be 2 weeks before the flip, that gives the plant time to recover and begin setting new root and give greater feeding area for budding food etc. Some stress towards the end of flower is supposed to be beneficial so thats why being rootbound then may not be so bad.
That’s an interesting idea. I’m glad you make it clear that the situation will stress the plant. I wonder if there are cultivars that will not benefit from this.
To be transparent I dont bud weed indoors, the wife cant tolerate the smell and HVAC is kinda expensive. Plus I cant grow big plants indoors. So my soil is full organic and my container size is pretty large. Like 500 gallons a plant? Plus the soil is connected to mother earth so the plants can grow dawn as far as they like. Because of the large soil volume I only water once a week at most. I water deep and use dechlorinated water with kelp and seaweed extract once in a while.
Well for sure, autos for one would probably not do well, or any plant that may be prone to stress hermie. I think its a pretty reliable method though.
