How to start your grow journal on ILGM - a guide for new members

Grow journals are the heartbeat of this forum. They’re part grow diary, part community - you document your progress, and growers from across the forum drop in to help, react, and share what worked for them. Here’s how to get started.

Why bother keeping a journal?

  • It gives you a record to look back on when things go wrong (or brilliantly right)
  • Other members can spot issues you might miss
  • It builds relationships - the same growers often follow a journal from seed to harvest
  • It’s genuinely satisfying to document a full grow

What to include in your first post

  • Strain - what are you growing?
  • Grow type - indoor/outdoor/greenhouse, soil/coco/hydro
  • Setup - tent size, light(s), ventilation
  • Goals - first grow, chasing yield, experimenting with a new technique?
  • A photo if you have one (even a seed or seedling shot is a great start)

You don’t need everything perfect before you start. Most journals begin with a simple “here’s what I’ve got, wish me luck” post and build from there.

Keeping it going
Update whenever something happens - transplant, first signs of pre-flower, a deficiency you noticed, a training session. Even short updates with one photo keep your readers engaged and the conversation flowing.

Format tips
Not sure how to add photos, format text, or use the reply box? Mod @kaptain3d put together a great walkthrough here: How do I? What’s this?

Name your journal so people can find it
Include your strain and setup in the title — something like: “First grow — ILGM Blue Dream, indoor, 4x4, coco”. It helps other growers find you, and makes searching your own posts easier later.
