From a fellow grower: I purchased Skywalker OG. What is the secret to getting it to turn blue?

i want to know this too. i know if you increase the ph / acidity in soil you get blue hydrangeas. can it work for cannabis?

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it has more to do with temps. I believe the colours are more intense when there are cooler night temps around. I’m sure I read it somewhere, but the life of me I cannot remember where.

i read it here too. i saw raise ph at the end and i read drop temps. i havent done either. my GDP was pink

I couldn’t get my zkittle to shift (but I didnt really try with an air conditioner ) but depending on the strain you need the dark period to be 10- 15 degrees f cooler to get color shift personally I dont think it’s worth the effort but I’m just growing for myself as for a little purpling around the edges you get that by having red dominant lights in your tent but that’s all I got

i was thinking next time i do GDP to try and time it where it gets close to winter time harvest where i can drop temps in the room just turning off the light. i get 10 degrees that way if i dont use a heater

I have read that high ph for last week or two works. I read go in at ~12… Haven’t tried that but I can tell you that I’ve gotten tons of color out of my first few grows with temp swings of 16-20 from day to night.

I know that the purple colour in purple strains is enhanced with low temps and like @pptrsha1, says acidity turns Hydrangea flowers blue and alkalinity turns them red. Personally if the strain doesn’t have blue in it then (I think) the only way to do anything like that would be to use a food dye when you water. I’ve seen experiments with dyes but never actually done it

@Davyg igh ph …(above 7) is alkaline below is acidic u said 12 is blues and alkaline is red same things … on my ph reagent that is liquid chemical ph below 6 the liquid signals red from 5.6 and down and about 7.6 and up it rises blue in color must be same type of signaling but in a natural spectrum… cold signaling is the activation of anthocyanins I dont no what the opposite would be… wow that’s cool after a lil research here ya go for inquiring minds ph reagent reacts the same way anthocyanins do to ph color wise

I would totally try that ph thing but my drops only go up to 8 or 8.5

@fano_man that’s some cool science going on there. I can see me going down a rabbit hole on this one. It was Eagles that was talking about going in at 12 to try and enhance the colour. I would hate to get to the last hurdle, hit her with a pH 12 and she collapses in a heap 
. I know my temperature dropped regularly on my first purple bud grows and the purple colours were amazing, really enhanced. I had no idea the temps were dropping, talking 50f here every night. It was so cold a friend of mine commented and after a bit of research on here I realized I was well out. That’s a great hook though, reagent and plant colour are similar if not the same. Going to try that in the summer with my hydrangeas

The article almost seemed redundant as well because at first it says color can be activated from temps both being cold …and also ph maybe a cold temp with high ph will give blue and a cold temp with moderately low ph will give purple reds

I know my purple bud became more enhanced with the drop in temperature. My thoughts, in outside gardening, with plants native to the area then manipulating pH can yield colour variations like the hydrangeas. Indoor gardening with genetics that have already been manipulated then I think temperature could play a bigger part rather than pH. Wild swings in pH often lead to disaster with indoor grows as we all know. Just my thoughts backed up by very little else

I’ve seen ppl I believe @imSICKkid raises ph to a high number I cant quote cant remeber… but uses ph to lockout the plant for final flush I thought that was interesting maybe he know about ph color and cold
