How much to prune indoor marijuana plants?

What do you know about pruning shade leaves and branches for indoor marijuana plants?

Ideal THC production comes from marijuana plants that have been pruned adequately because their energy is focused on fewer branches (or leads). Some varieties produce more prodigious branching than others. Side branches will begin at the leaf node before developing slightly and then producing their own collection of side branches.

If branching has begun, cut away the flimsy side branches about a week or two prior to forcing flowering. The branches that are left, should not intersect or interfere with one another. Shade (or fan) leaves that block light from entering into new growth areas need to be removed. If you look directly down on the canopy, the first couple of inches of buds should only have small leaves to allow the lower canopy area (below the initial 5 inches) to get light.
