Here are my six plants enjoying the outdoors. They have been outside for over 2 weeks now and everything seems OK (knock on wood). I have started a full prescription of nutrients (ff trio) and they seem to respond to the feedings.
Question is; these things take a lot of water. I water them everyday. Each plant is taking just under 1/2 gallon a day. It has been hot and sunny (Michigan, USA) but I have always been warned, especially on this forum, not to water too much. Is this much water normal? They are in fabric pots if that makes a difference.
The bigger perspective here is that you’re watering when you recognize they need water. Not everyday and not gallons everyday.
So really I think you’re doing good.
Happy growing.
I like to run 10-15% of container size personally.
I’m using Coast of Maine soil in 15 gal pots, with added perlite. I water them with 1.5-2.25 gallons of water, depending on their size and the weather. Bigger plants on hotter days get 2 & 1/4 gal.
Watering this amount the plants go 3-4 days between watering.
That’s just my situation in my environment.
I am also a first time grower. using coco with 30% perlite. I am in south Florida so I have an ocean breeze, humidity at 60-80 percent and the heat index is around 85-95 degrees. They were planted two days ago, started poking out of the dirt yesterday, and today is the first time I see them standing except the leaves are curling down. Is this because they’re still growing up or is it overwatering? I gave them 2 liters on the day I potted them. Waterings were a liter each about 4 hours apart. Thinking that the issue is overwatering but I would like to see what you think
As @NeoGroR said, 1/2 gallon water for a 7 gal pot is low. You are not fully watering your plants. My plants in 7 gal fabric pots get a full gallon, whenever they need it, usually every 3 or 4 days. Also to add, watering too much is usually not the problem, over-watering usually happens with watering too-often.
I have upped hydration to just under a gallon day. I add nutrients every 3 days. They are really digging in and growing right now. I am cautiously satisfied so far.
Thanks for the help. I would be lost without this forum.
