Hop along to Hopalong's indoor growings

@Highgrow @Truetopath @SausageMahoney Went and did the same procedure to Tropicana cookies too. Since I started it, I feel I have to treat all members of my harem equally. The whole idea is after all to keep the canopy level.

First day of week 3, I think I can safely say we have entered the vegetative stage…? To celebrate this milestone I cranked up the light and raised the ppfd from about 350 to 380. Is this a good idea after all, immediately after LSTing the girls? Those with more experience may have more educated opinions about this? If this is ok I plan to raise it further to maybe 450ish before the “stretch” starts.

About that, does the stretch start around the time I see the first pistils?

Just let them do their thing for a few days. I will tend one day. Just visit for a few. Then I’ll pluck underneath stuff. Wait a few days then make more room. I’ve currently got about 10 spots I’m focusing on. Trying to keep them level and give each one room. I’m just a couple weeks ahead of you. My first go at it too. I will say, be careful doing too much. I broke off a couple branches roughing her up.

@SausageMahoney Thanks, will do. Do you keep a journal here I could follow?

I agree with @SausageMahoney doing some lst then waiting a few days to do more is whats best.

Also increasing the light intensity slowly is probably best to, i however dont. F9r veg i increase light intensity and when i was trying to track pdf id go for about 450-600. But everyone has their own way to go about it.

They will strech for the first couple weeks of flower and that will be a couple days after the pistols first start to show

@Highgrow @SausageMahoney I thought I give the girls some water with a bit of calmag and bioheaven to help them recover.

I just get some confusing ph results. I put two different ph pens in a calibration solution, they are more or less on point. But when i dip them in my feed solution they give very different readings… has this happened to you?

Did you calibrate them properly? Not familiar with thoes pens. I use

Yes, I calibrated them to a 6.89 calib solution. I actually have even a third pen, here they sit in the calib solution:

I let all sit in the water and they settled 6.3 - 6.6 so I think I’m good to go.

I think I will keep calibrating them more than once per grow just to be on the safer side… I have heard horror stories resulting from a faulty ph pen.

Hmm. Ima tag @Lostgirl i believe she uses that bigger ph pen you have.

I have only used a 4.0 and 7.0 calibration solution and when calibrating if the pen says 3.9 in the 4.0 solution it corrects itself to 4.0 and same with the 7.0 solution. I get a L&M on my pens screen for a successful 2point calibration. Not sure about thoes pens. Sorry growmie hopefully she can help answer that for ya.

I do know adding nutrients to your water should lower the ph but to have a .8 difference in pens is weird to me.

Im not sure how reliable and accurate that smaller black ph pen will actually be tbh.

Actually I ordered that pen from aliexpress after reading @Lostgirl journals. Maybe it’s not the same since she got hers from amazon? Looks the same though but one can never be sure when ordering stuff from random Chinese producers.

That Milwaukee pen is supposed to be reliable brand, many growers seem to use it here. Definitely not an expensive one though.

Haha i shoulda known that. Shes a great grower with lots of knowledge.

Just from what i see when fallowing on others grows here most use apera or blue lab pens. And of course the one Lostgirl suggest.

I’d think the pens wouldn’t differ from vendor to vendor if they are the same manufacturer? Get your numbers in and out next time(if you dont have them from last watering) you water. Have those ready for @Lostgirl if she cimes in. Might even check all 3 pens and write them all down so you know which did what. When I get an issue with anything I try to employ the scientific method and break the issue down into factors and cofactors. I hear to let the plants tell you how they are and at last glance youts are saying “we feel happy we feel happy and green!”

When I ordered this pen I order it directly from the manufacturer on AliExpress. There are many counterfeit knockoffs of this particular pen. There are several fake manufacturers manipulating their name. They do not sell on Amazon and said most are fake.

This is the manufacturer directly to this product

Also this is the name of the store if you do not see this exact name you’re not in the right place.

As for the calibration of this pen on the ph it’s a three-point calibration. If you click on the link to the pen there’s a video that shows you how to calibrate the pH of this particular pen with the three solutions.

As for the EC/PPM calibration see the link below. It’s a single point calibration

I hope this helps

And yes the pen may look identical but trust me if it’s not coming from the manufacturer above they can be serious junk

Thanks for the input. So far I get no runoff (gave them 0,8l/plant). Next watering will increase it to 1l/plant.

Since I’m in soil I’m forgiven small variations in Ph, they actually might be even beneficial as long as we stay within reason.

I agree, plants seem happy so far!

I cranked the light a bit again, to ppfd 400 measured with Photone app.

@Lostgirl Well for once I got lucky! I checked my orders and it seems to be from the same manufacturer as yours.

I will now proceed to the 3-point calibration following tge link you posted.

Thank you so much for bothering to help a complete stranger from the other side of the planet!!

When calibrating, be sure you use distilled water at the correct temperature

@Lostgirl Thank you, I have a bottle of battery water, I suppose that is same as distilled water…?

No, battery water is not distilled water as it contains a certain percentage of H2SO4 (sulphuric acid)

When calibrating such an important valuable tool in your grow I would not substitute anything

@Lostgirl Oh no… I though it’s the same thing. I haven’t got any idea where to get distilled water from.

I have to do some googling now.

I quess I have to ask everything from you guys no matter how much I think I can rationalise in my own head… sighhh
