So I got a couple questions I can’t make up my mind over.
I got 2 hlg-uv bars. They claim 1 covers a 4x4
Seems like from there physical sizes, theres no way 1 covers a 4x4 very evenly is there?
My next question is can I run them with my 18/6 light schedule with autos as they say run them 12/12?
I did plain to only run them in flower but would be nice to just daisy them with my Roi-e720 so I just use one timer…
My thoughts are this should not be a problem but I wanted to see what others think. I’ve got some nice looking girls I dont want to hurt them
Good morning fellow cultivator. I sure would hate to see that beautiful grow ruined also. Perhaps @dbrn32 or @Graysin could shed some light (so to speak) best of luck my friend. I’m sure some one will be able to answer those questions for you.
Go easy on the UVA lights. I bought the 20 watt HLG UVA light, and put it in a 2x3 tent at about 16 inches from the plants. At two hours per day it was burning up the leaves. I moved it to another tent with a distance of 28 inches, and on 30 minutes per day. So far it seems OK, at 5 days in. I plan to increase the time a little more, as this grow is at 5 weeks in bloom.
I think that the UVA light will go into storage until or if I go to a 5x5 tent with a high ceiling.
I would believe it but I also believe the vast majority of the uva would go to the center where the diodes are.
Good question. I have 2 that I’ve only ever run on 12/12, but I do have a couple KingBrite fixtures that have UVA built in to them. Those get run on 18/6 no problem at all.
It may be worth trying. The sun, as far as I know, is always emitting UVA, so… I can’t see why plants couldn’t be trained into tolerating it, if not flat-out enjoying it.
As Ickey says, though, I’d be watching for signs of stress or burn, cuz too much time in the sun can indeed be a bad thing. If it’s too much, dial it back.
Exactly what I was thinking.
As @icky pointed out at 16 inches away, it burt them with 20 watts just 2 hours a day.
I definitely need to run them over 24in away I think which would help light distribution.
The actual design of these HLG bars is not really made for my light i have other tents i may add them to and just bite the bullet and get the ones made for my Roi-e720
I got such a good deal on these though i couldn’t pass it up.
Ebay for $75 OBO, i offered $55 a peice and he took it.
Pappy, if I was you, I would definitely put the UV light on it’s own timer, and start off with a short cycle during the middle of your day cycle.
Where my UV is hanging now it is halfway blocked by the main light and seems to work much better. But I have a small tent though.
Yeah I’m going put one in the very center at about 24in away on it’s own timer maybe 1-2 hrs aday to finish these. 2 have about 2-3 weeks left and the other 4-6 weeks left… So i think ill go really easy on them for now.
I do want to use UV more and I will get the actual uv bars made by Growers Choice that will plug into my light. They make a controller for the Roi-e720 that would give me built-in timing functions and more dimming options and supposedly 15% more power in “boost mode” .
But we’re talking $500 $200 for their uv bars and $300 for their controller
I have a few 400nm in my light, doesn’t seem to make much difference from other lights I’ve used. But hlg’s recommended use is probably about right, and Graysin’s comment right on the money. It would be best to have them more equally spaced among your tent, but not really practical to have such a low powered light that size.
So i put my cheep az Amazon lights side by side. opps guess I’ll be splitting them a bit tomorrow Thankyou @dbrn32 i would say the sun always shines here
