Hi, new to the board

About two weeks ago I planted my first seeds for an indoor grow. White widow. I planted them in Fox Farm Light Warrior about one half inch deep. They were placed in an AC infinity humidity dome with LED lights. Now for the problem. About two weeks after popping their little heads up they suddenly had taken on the look of tall palm trees with a long stem and leaves at the very top. I looked around the internet and found an article that stated the fix was to transplant them with he stem mostly under the soil which I have done. Supposedly the stem will grow it’s own roots and the problem will be solved. Now the questions. Did I go about fixing the problem right right way? Did I use to much light in the first place? Anyone else ever have this problem? Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks…eternal1

welcome to the forum. My first grow attempt I ended up with leggy stretched seedlings. mine ended up perishing. For me it was the result of my lights not performing anywhere near the level they claimed. happy growing hope you get it resolved.

I think most of us here on the forum made all the same mistakes.
I killed most of my first seeds too.

The very first picture and question I ever posted was the exact same.

And they do it in hours, not days.

Once the seeds come up in seed starter they need to be transplanted.

There is no nutritional value to seed starter so once the original set of leaves are consumed the plant will stop thriving.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I mentioned that this was done in a AC infinity humidity dome. Well when I bought the dome they did not have the LED strips in stock. So to make due I bought some cheap LED lights off of ebay. I don’t know if that link will work or not but it’s worth a try. Thanks for any help and thank you for your quick reply…eternal1

These guys are 40w max output. As bright as you can get them and as close to the plant as you can get them will be the best way to prevent them from stretching beyond control again right away.

Do you have a more powerful light for vegging/flowering on deck?

Edit to add: yes. Backfilling/mounding up more soil around the base of the seedling’s stalk was absolutely the right solution.

Ebay links not allowed in this part of forum, but that is definitely the reason your plants stretched.

You have some great members here steering you in right direction.

Welcome to the community.

Hi
Thanks. I was leaning toward to much light so of course I was 180 out of phase. I have a AC infinity 4x4 tent with their S44 Ionboard light. I also bought their 4 inch inline fan kit for bringing the air in and a 6 inch fan kit for blowing it out. So if I can ever figure out how to program the 69 pro controller ( I have my doubts ) I should be OK. I’m just getting started at this indoor growing and I have only had one outdoor grow which turned out pretty well. But I can see already that trying to take over God’s part of it is going to have a pretty large learning Curve. Thanks for you reply…eternal1

Very well put. Think of it this way: outside, the sun has its intensity that changes throughout the day and over the season. Inside, we do our best to replicate that, but not many lights will be as powerful as the sun is - it’s hard to over-do it with lighting, especially when you have a limited space to work with (a 4x4 would want ~640 watts of quality lighting). It’s not impossible, but lack of light is significantly more common inside than excessive light. :v:
