I was checking in on her / him today and this is what I found.
It must have been caused by topping her back a week - 10 days ago just before a 90 degree heat wave and she must have been getting close to flower / preflower.
I had one that threw balls like in your first pic. I threw it out suspecting that it was a male.
Looks straight up male.
